    found a can

hey all, just found an un opened can of ettan los in the back of my fridge. The date on the can says 27/04/09. I opened it up and it smells normal, seems a bit "chunkier" though. Will it be ok to use?

Should be fine. As long as it was in the fridge and unopened I wouldn't worry about it. I've used a couple of cans that had a year old best by date and they were fine.

Yes, you can still use it. The best before dates are only indicators of quality, it's not going to make you sick. If the snus is still moist enough to form a pris, and there isn't a lot of flavor degradation, by all means use it.

I'd recommend freezing your snus to ensure freshness. Frozen snus can last a year after its expiration date when kept frozen.

If its very dry just spray some water on it and put it in the freezer for 48 hrs, good as new

Loose snus keeps longer than portion and I read on northerner that it should keep for months in the fridge and upto a year in the freezer.

About damn time you found your way to us!!

Reading you, I gathered you were not a newbie. Welcome again to our little fun here.

harpdog, you have it backwards. Here is the 911 from the horse's mouth

Snus is perishable and must be stored in a refrigerator for best shelf life. When stored correctly, the shelf life for moist loose snus is 14 weeks, for moist portion-packed snus 20 weeks and for the dry assortments (CatchDry) 30 weeks. For longer storage, we would recommend freezing, which is excellent up to one year. Then, we recommend that the cans be vacuum-packed in airtight freezer bags. Snus in cardboard cans should be thawed in the refrigerator so that the condensation does not undo the glued seams in the cardboard can or the label on the outside of the can.

I read somewhere that the reason loose comes in fibre cans is because it witholds moisture better than portion hence portions come in plastic cans. That is what I based my comment on. But thanks for the heads up

yeah i dont like freezing my los because sometimes after i take it out of the freezer the bottom is all wet and brown cause they moisture soaks into the bottom. I dont use a lot of los, although lately ive been using it more and more.
