    Important question !!*

I am thinking of doing a large 50-60 can order from Northerner via UPS. I will pay the extra money for a large quantity of snus to throw in my freezer, this is the first time I've ever been out of snus, ever!

Will i get charged tobacco tax on an order like this? How much could it possibly be?

I live in ontario canada and customs tacks on 35$ for a roll. (i do 2 orders a week, 4 cans each...lesson learned)

    N&J strong
    general long
    goteborg rape
    general white portion
    ettan los
    phantom blue white
    +ice tool 3ml

Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to hide the bodies of the people I killed because they were annoying......

I've been wrong lots of times.  Lots of times I've thought I was wrong only to find out that I was right in the beginning.

More likely than not, you'll get dinged for it. Just speaking from what I seen on here, Canadian customs are pretty good at catching this stuff. As for fees, they seem to be pretty random.

Discretionary taxation --- what a concept!

Sometimes you get away with it ... but when
            you don't, you're royally dinged!!

Are you kidding? Here in BC I paid $65 on 5 cans of ettan los on my last order... They are freaking crooks. It is totally random depending on what tobacco category they decide to charge it under, because also in the same order was another 5 cans of ettan los which was charged at $30. Sometimes its 'loose tobacco', sometimes 'snuff'.

Most places shipping to Canada will split each order into individual packages of 5 cans with no additional shipping charges. Its nice because you get more chances to slip through without duty/taxes.

The only thing that keeps it from being a complete joke is that on average I only get caught on 50% of my orders, and its still about 3x cheaper than smoking over the same period of time.

I think people in the US don't realize just how highly taxed alcohol and tobacco are in Canada. When I lived nearish to the border in Maine, I used to have fun messing with the French Canadians that came down of a weekend to stock up on cheap cigarettes and booze. Every so often, I'd get one who would come up and say "Excusez-moi, parlez-vous français?" to which I'd invariably reply, "Oui, un peu, mais pas ce merde québécois."

For the non-francophones, don't worry, the joke's really not that funny if you can't read French, and to be honest, it probably wasn't that funny if you could. I got a kick out of all the indignant old ladies though...

I went to Old Orchard Beach this summer and thought I was in Canada. Just like I remembered it 25 years ago. Not that this has any pertinence but Shikitohno's joke made me think of that.

I've got to find the company that will ship to MA...(pm's on the subject are welcome) Actually, it might be cheaper to get it shipped to a UPS store in PA as I go there every month anyhow.

That's what I would do since, I believe, their tobacky tax
is much lower than Myassachusetts or Roady Island!!
Just time your order with your trippin'.

That is ridiculous and you're right, I don't think most people realize it (I know I didn't). We complain about our taxes and whine about the 15 buck shipping from UPS now but we should definitely feel lucky.

                        That's really a relative term.

What about the poor bastard (and, yes, I mean poor) who's trying to get out from under a long-term smoking addiction (that probably started back when you would get free matches with your smokes, which themselves were under a buck a pack). Cheap smokes eventually evolved into an overtaxed albatross, and resulting ill health.

Along comes snus, probably the safest harm-reduction alternative to smoking. Much cheaper than cancer-sticks, and bystanders are not subjected to irritating smoke. Definitely a win-win situation.

Then the shit literally hits the fan. The stop smoking gurus, not satisfied with demonizing cigarettes, now go after tobacco itself. But ineffective nicotine big-pharma products are left untouched because there's no tobacky in their products.

In their quest for power, these idiots push for the PACTCRAP Act to 'save the children'. And that pack of wolves we've elected to look out for the interests of all their constituents goes along for the ride after pocketing the graft ... whoops, I mean contributions ... they've received from Big Pharma. In the process, what started out as a fairly inexpensive means to defeating a bad addiction has more than doubled in price for most of us, and we know there's no end in sight --- this is just the beginning of a major cluster****.

Yep, we should definitely feel lucky.

Just think how much luckier we'll feel when a month's
supply of snus will cost as much as a week's rent!!

Well like you said, it's a relative term. Compared to what we could be paying if we lived in Canada we are definitely lucky. Compared to pre-pact prices, definitely not. However, unless they repeal pact (which is unlikely), lamenting the days of cheap snus is fruitless so we might as well feel grateful.

Normally I would be ranting right there with you about the antis and the political (and big tobacco) BS and how no one cares about health OR "the children", just their agendas. But it raises my stress levels, which require more snus, and my stock is dwindling, and I refuse to pay pact prices, so I will quit once it's gone. So I try and stay calmer now so I can stick to 6-8 portions per day. :P

Well, it's nice to know that SNUSON itself doesn't raise your stress levels.

But just venting your frustrations to a venue other than a dog or wall can be
a great stress reliever; at least some of the posts I've seen seem that way.

LOL If anything SnusOn has saved me. It's a great place to vent (and I have done my share) but it also helps put things in perspective (like realizing how insignificant we are in relation to world and US events and our control over them <sigh>). And I love the friends I have made here.
