No argument here.

Polls are limited to 10 items. There were like 50 entrants. This would require 5 polls and 2 rounds of voting. Then the choice would be heavily weighted by the grouping of the entrants to the individual polls (like if 2 really good ones are in the same poll), etc.

This method seems like it works. You can add your vote to a couple you like or add even more weight to 1 you really like.

In the end... You're not picking a wife, you're voting for an avatar. Just pick 1, 2 or 3 you like.
