RyJ to this side of the pond?

Does RyJ contain cuban tobacco? Or is it just using the name of the cuban brand? I lived in Ybor City (Tampa, FL) for about eight years prior to moving up here to savannah. Ybor was/is the old cuban district, and still has a lot of cigar shops. If I remember correctly, there were quite a few cigars out there that use "Cuban seeded tobacco" but were not truly classified as "Cuban cigars".

I guess what my question is, is whether it is legal to order RyJ snus to be sent state-side? I dont want to order this and wind up in trouble with customs.

    Hi Xobeloot!

AFAIK R&J as well as Montecristo are made with Cuban tobacco and are automatically removed froms most webshops' shopping cart as soon as you state your country.
If you find a webshop, that ships these brands to the U.S., problems with the customs are quite likely, but I don't think, that they check every package, so you could be lucky.
I remember, one year ago, Americans had no problems to import R&J and Montecristo, but it may be that the customs check packages from Sweden a little more careful, than they did back then.
For the worst, the package gets seized. I don't think that anybody gets real problems by importing Swedish snus with a Cuban brand name.
The biggest problem, I guess, will be to find a webshop that still ships these brands to the U.S.

    Cheers!

yeah, RyJ and Montecristo are both of Cuban tobacco, therefore most webshops won't ship them to the States. I haven't heard of anyone finding a webshop that would ship them to the US, but i'm sure there's one out there that will for premium.

maybe some of our snusers in Europe could get us U.S. snusers some and ship it to us (hint hint nudge nudge)

I appreciate the info. Trying a new snus is not worth hunting down company willing to ship it and potentially losing my money. I bet it is pretty tasty snus though

Well, I personally don't see why our fellow snusers in the US should be kept from such a - hopefully - good product. The combination of our beloved snus and such traditional and noble tobaccoes as Montecristo or R&J just has to be made available to you :-)

I personally haven't tried either of them yet but I'm still waiting for a shipment from busynus containing both of them; it should arrive within the next two days I think. I really want to try these two!

Not knowing that this subject would ever come up, I only have ordered two cans each. But given there will be enough interest from the US forum members I'd gladly go and order another stack! ;-)
If anyone has any good ideas on how to safely ship this from Switzerland to the US, please let me know. Maybe repacking the "communist snus" into another tin would work although this would IMO definitely spoil the overall experience since they both seem to come in quite nice tins...!

              RyJ

Romeo y Julieta does contain Cuban tobacco, and the Swedish on-line shops will actually block it from shipping to a USA address.

Im not sure how much info you have to disclose to ship to the U.S. I have shipped pipe tobacco to Europe in trades. The pipe tobacco was not available in Europe. In return I was shipped pipe tobacco not sold in the U.S. I think we both put collectibles down as the item description. We both received our shipments without a problem. If anyone would ship me some cuban blend snus, I would gladly pay with the risk of not receiving.

                  RyJ to USA

I believe the issue is not that it will not arrive, but that one can be arrested for importing something which is illegal. If your name is on the parcel and they see what it is, then you have broken US law.

I'd gladly come in handy here; any orders can be directed to me by private message :-)

Likewise... just opened my first can of Montecristo now. Boy, I sure am glad I'm in Europe right now because I am going to miss this stuff once I return stateside.

If anyone wants some Montecristo, RyJ or Tobaca just let me know and I'll be happy to forward the packs on to the US for you.

PS: I'm in the UK, so paying EU taxes.
