how long do you keep a portion in?

I was wondering how long a portion lasts ...I find myself poppin a new one pretty much on the hour...Do portions keep releasing nicotine past the half hour mark? Past the hour mark? I do like the taste of a fresh portion but I am using about 15 a day...Still cheaper than cigarettes but at about 4 cans of snus a week ( about 3 bucks a can)... If they are still releasing nicotine I might keep em in a little longer...Thanks , Red

It is all just personal preference. Most, but not all of the nicotine is left after 30 minutes. But still some after. Obviously, a sterk would be more.

The Swedes are very short. Like 15 - 20 minutes. For most my first few years, I was about an hour, my snus usage exactly as yours. Recently, I made a point of switching them out longer, and waiting between a bit, too see just how low could I go. Got to about 8 portions a day. Not too hard if you think about it. As I stop thinking though, my usage has gone back up a bit.

I myself make it a point to keep a portion in for at least an hour and a half. I dont use snus only because of nicotine - I use it because frankly I love the stuff. I tend to keep one in untill every last drop of flavorful goodness is used up, and the thing is just dead, way past when the nicotine is gone. Sometimes I'll have some Thunder Frosted in for 3 hours or more if Im working and not thinking about it much. Which, by the way, still doesn't kill the flavor of Thunder, I actually think thats impossible, the flavor of Thunder just goes on FOREVER....

I used to use alot more snus, but now I find I use only 4-6 portions a day, slightly over a can a week, which really helps save money, and being able to get that freezer stocked up. And I still feel like Im a chain-snussin' fool! :lol: 8) :wink:

Depends on the brand of snus I'm using. Some just last longer than others.

As much as I like grov portions, the flavor turns dead after about 30 min. But goteborgs rape lasts twice as long.

45 min to an hour depending on where I am, what I am doing, and what snus I am using. Flavor is the key, it is goes bitter it has to come out...otherwise as long as the drip is minimal it will stay in until the flavor is gone.

My only problem with keeping a Thunder Frost in that long is that for me, past the 90 minute mark, Thunder Frost really starts to produce brown liquid that gets on my teeth and my lips. So I swap out the Frost after bout an hour.

I keep mine in as long as there is no bitter taste. Usually for the sterk portions it's around an hour to an hour and fifteen minutes.

I average an hour for reg/white portions (a little under for reg and a little over for whites) and 90 minutes to 2 hours w/ a sterk.

I guess I could keep them in longer as the flavor has not fully exhausted itself in the above mouth-time. I have a habit of beginning to play with the portion after an hour or so. once it looses it's place in the lip I cannot get it comfortably seated again and it must go.

My nose has been very clear lately so snuff is going to take a bigger role until the trees start to bud and that friggin' allergy season rears its ugly head. Last time that happened my snus duration went up.

many say that the nic is all but gone after about 30 minutes. Maybe so, I like the comfort of a portion in and i love the taste so I keep going with it. Just don't feel bad spitting one out early...that's why the made more.

As much as I like the flavours of snus,I must admit that above all, I am in it for the nicotine....If there was no nicotine in snus, I would chew gum...That being said, I do enjoy a wide variety of snus....Straight tobacco(Ettan)....I love mint...(Fellini) for the occassional low nicotine dose(After midnight)....I love fruit and licorice(Offroad and Odens)....
So is the general consensus ,30 minutes till the nicotine is gone?... That seems the point that my nicotine alarm clock starts to let me know that it is time for another portion....I try to stretch it to an hour because snus doesn't grow on trees....Also there is a burst of flavour and nicotine with every fresh portion....
I suppose I could move up to strong portions...I do enjoy an extra strength now and then....But if I chain them it is too much for me...

No. After 30 minutes only 10-20% of the nicotine are used (according to a study by Swedish Match, which I can not find online at the moment). But after about 35 minutes your body will slowly start to decompose more nicotine than it absorbs.

I use a portion for 2 hours on average. Between minute 30 and minute 90 the nicotine concentration in the blood seems to stay about the same, then it tapers off a little more noticeable, so that somewhere between minute 90 and minute 150 it normally becomes clear to me that a replacement is due.

With lös, I rarely use a prilla for less than 3 hours. They usually are a little oversized though, definitely more than 1 gram.

At the moment I'm on minute 140 of a General Ekstra Sterk portion that will be replaced with Ettan Lös within a short time.

Overall, it's a personal thing and when I hear the Swedes, who use their snus for (only) 15 minutes, I also think that it has to do with tradition, certainly not with nicotine-intake.

My reason to use single portions or prillas for so long was a 'calculation' that I did as a newbie. I found out that a snus-portion has about as much nicotine as 10 cigarettes, so it should last about 2 hours even for an ex-chainsmoker like me. Of course, the math is a little more complicated when you look at it from a scientific standpoint, but well, I tried it and it worked for me from the beginning.

Anywhere from 1 hour to 4 hours. 75 minutes is probably average.
