I finally got it. For those with a tool that will not work. (dont go there) clean it like a black powder rifle. Put soap on the plunger. As you run it under water plunge up and down. this cleans the inside. Next spray plunger with pam and there you go. I have been smoking my pipe quite a bit now but cannot live without me snus

Thanks for the tip! just gave mine a thorough cleaning for the first time, I forgot how smooth the plunger is supposed to slide.

Licking the O ring works too. These things don't require as much attention as you might think at first. Just give it a good rim job every month or so. Lick that ring. Or like Condor once suggested, chapstick is great too if hygiene is more your thing.

PAM has soy lecithin in it. I know in cookware it will leave a sticky residue over time. Not sure if the same thing will occur in a non-heated item.
