Mint Woman goes General White Portion

I am new here and wanted to let everyone know I just got my order of 'real' snus yesterday. I love the mint flavored snus and got hooked on Camel Snus Frost. I am aware it is not true snus and decided to get some of the good stuff. I ordered Catch Eucalyptus and Thunder Frost. I like them both. I also got the samples of the General brand. I tried the Mini mint first and loved it but didn't get the nic kick I needed. The Catch does well but is salty. I opened up one of the samples of the General White Portions and thought 'oh god this stinks' and didn't do it. After reading lots of reviews I decided to give it a try and it isn't too bad. I think it would go well with coffee or a beer. Anyway, it is nice to find a place to talk snus! I can't wait to get to know everyone

Welcome to Snuson. I had the same impression when I first smelled it. Now General White is one of my mainstays. Your gonna have fun trying all of the different flavors.

Christi, I know you mentioned in the Thunder Frosted thread how you appreciated the nic hit. As you sample some other sterks and what not, may I suggest the Oden's Kanel (Cinnamon) ES Portion. That is another nicely flavored and STRONG snus.

That's a common first impression, when I first started I thought the same thing. I opened the can (it was my first REAL snus), took a big smell, gagged, and put it away and vowed never to touch it again. As tastes mature, I have come to like it, and now a roll and a half later, still using it all the time and venturing away from the flavored snus I started with and once loved.

I tended to think of the way my uncles snuff smelled as a kid after about 30 min. I will have to get used to it, but really did enjoy it. I might try one this evening with a brewskie! Thanks for the kind welcome!

              Christi, welcome to Snuson

The saltiness you are tasting now will significantly recede over the next few weeks. When someone first tries Swedish snus, their bodies just need a few weeks to fully acclimate to the salt. So what you are tasting today really will be very different from how it all tastes in a few weeks. Just be patient now, and aware that your body is adjusting to it.

I would encourage you to eventually try everything. what kind of snus people assume they will like often changes the more they use. I assumed I would never like unflavored snus. Now, 3 years later, it is almost only what I will use.

And welcome, you have a wonderful adventure ahead of you.

                Welcome aboard!

I'm pretty much the opposite when it comes to mint -- can't stand mint at all (although I like General Wintergreen, but wintergreen isn't mint, dammit).

If you're looking to move beyond minty stuff gradually, you might enjoy some of the flavored portions next. Goteborgs Rape #2, Skruf Tranbar, various Offroad concoctions, etc. Roda Lacket has a nice dried fruit flavor but it's saltier than some others. There are also a ton of licorice and anis flavored snus, although I don't care for either personally. Oh, and Julesnus... I like the Gotland version, myself, I think it smells like apple pie.

As Sage says, however, try everything and expect your tastes to change over time.

I think the mini mints are a good in between snus, but sadly pretty small. General portions are probably one of the most popular ever, and next to that you might want to try goteborgs (again the smell is more intense than the flavor itself like general), and skruf.
