    Snus: dirty, filthy, nasty?

    Well I decided to find out what skruf meant in Swedish via an online translation, which is apparently "scrub, graze". Decided to translate snus for fun, and the result was "dirty, filthy, nasty".

    I just found it kind of funny.

    Funny that. Most translators translate snus as snuff and back. The one you used translates "dirty, filthy, nasty" back as "smutsig , smutsig , otäck", and the word "snuff" isn't in their dictionary. It also translates "scrub, graze" as "skura , skrappa". Google Translate translates "skruf" as "screw" and back. I generally won't trust a translator that doesn't work both ways.

      Yeah, I usually use google, but it has been wrong on a few Norwegian translations for me lately.

      Skruf as screw? lol.

        I can see that. It's part of their "hip" image. Skruf="scruffy", I imagine, rebellious, a little dangerous. I dunno, that's what I get from it.

          Skruf(snus brand) was named after the ancient spelling of the small village Skruv, in Småland(southern Sweden),the actually place where the manufacturer of Skruf snus modestly began their production.....

          skruv=screw,peg,spin....

                  The moral of this thread?

                  If you skruf too much, you'll get knoxed up. :P
