    Hey y'all

That's all... just wanted to stop by and say hi.

    Still snusin...
My stash is lasting longer that I thought it would. I still have quite the supply of N&J and Claq Qui. I almost wish I hadn't bought so much because I think it is time to move down to a regular portion.

I had surgery 3 weeks ago to fix a broken humerus (with a plate and 12 screws). The doctor cautioned me against smoking and I told him that I dont smoke, I snus. He said, "Oh, but that is FAR worse".
    It never ends...

You know that is a sign you need a different doctor. Seriously, you are gonna trust yourself to a doctor who just proved how ignorant he was. To a doctor who refuses to read the science that is all over the place that shows the relative benefits of using snus over cigarettes. Seriously.

btw, good to see you. How long is the recovery time to get back to normal from all of this?

I have all kinds of respect for doctors, and I like my doctor, but they can be so stupid (and greedy, and etc.). Someone I know had a problem and they tried everything. Finally they were going to give him a colostomy. I typed three words into Google and before long he had a simple (very new at the time) outpatient treatment that pretty much solved his problem--a hell of a lot better outcome than a colostomy. That's been at least eight years ago, so hopefully that particular doctor has learned by now how to drive teh googles, or else retired.

I wouldn't care what my doctor thought about snus in your case as long as he or she was good at fixing a broken humerus with a plate and 12 screws! How did you do it? I've had lots of accidents, but man that one sounds awful. How is your recovery going?

The thing about doctors, is they're just like everybody else. They went to school, whoop-de-do, my cats learn things also. Doctors have the same misconceptions, biases, and flaws everybody else has; they just paid more for them ;^)

That's right; they are only human. I think the angrifying thing about all this has more to do with how they are perceived, and the extent to which the doctors themselves are responsible for this is worthy of discussion. I, however, do not feel up to that task right now, as I am (somewhat ironically, I guess) too much under the weather.

I had a motorcycle accident 4-5 years ago that caused the break. Even though it was completely broken I was still able to use it. The thing that I could NOT do was hold my arm straight outward either forward or to the side. Because I haven't used it in that manner, much of the muscles used for that have atrophied. So, recovery is going to take FOREVER.... but thankfully, I am no longer in any pain. I am wearing a shoulder immobilizer for another coupe of weeks before I try using my arm again.

Why did it take so long to decide to fix it you ask? My last doctor/insurance refused to operate since I was a "smoker". At least my current doctor sais this... "I understand that you smoke... and I can warn you that it is not good and tell you to quit. But... I am a realist. Not everyone can quit and you need your arm fixed".
              So... he isn't so bad.

I was on a medical malpractice jury this past summer and the plaintiff was a smoker. So obviously the defense attacked that fact several times over the course of the proceedings - even though the lawsuit was based on a foot fracture!!
