    1st time handbaking

So I hand baked my first pris of Gotland yellow today. Came out pretty good. It's still holding up unlike last nights attempt with a prismaster... 10 min and a mudslide later. Los is great by the way. I think I'll be ordering more for my down time at home.

    Anyone want a prismaster?

Great! Keep up the good work. That is not an easy one to bake.

really??? I find it bakes really nice.... I've had it in for about 25 min so far and still no mudslide.

Of course zero's video helped a lot.

They might have changed the grind since last I tried it. I remember having trouble with it.

        Good work anyways!

        Edit: Yeah they changed it.

But I say if it's your first handbake you are doing great anyways!

Hold on to it. You may need it sometime in the future.

That's a nice looking pris. The Gotlands are much easier to bake now than they used to be. The cut was coarser, and you'd mush it around in your hand, but it was so wet it would just squish around. You'd finally get something that approximated a pris, and place it in your lip, then marvel at the stinky brown spot it left in your hand :^D

I absolutely agree. You will need it at some point. Other brands of los are not as forgiving as Gotlands, especially when they lose a little of their initial moisture..

Question: when you tried the pris master, did you really pack it down (i.e. holding the little slide button still, packing more and more in, and then with the prismaster on the lid or bottom of the can, compress the pris by moving the slide button down as much as you can?). If not, that's a big reason why it busted up. Try it again this time compressing the pris.

In the meantime- great hand bake so don't stop that either. IMO you will want to become proficient at using both methods.

Don't dump the prismaster.......it still comes in handy every once in a while. I used to use it to portion out and compress the pris before I popped it into my hand to finish the job.

I'm impressed. Gotland Gul is not at all easy to hand bake, because of its unusual, grainy texture I think.

When doing los, I just use my Icetool 90% of the time, but still bake by hand now and then just to stay in shape.

I'll take it in case you ever do wanna dump it.

I packed that bugger nice. when I popped out the pris it was nice and firm. Seemed like it would hold up, but it only managed 10 min, Mudslides suck my ass. No mudslides yet handbaking and I had one in last night for about 90 min, so I think I'm just gonna stick to hand baking. I only use los at home anyway, and it takes me less time to hand bake than to use the prismaster.

                      Thanks for the troubleshooting though.

I just handbaked some V2 los, and it molded well, and I got it my mouth well, and so far so good. Really, ideally, I'd like to be confident in hand baking. I wonder, in Sweden, do most los users use a tool, or just their hands?

I asked a Swedish SnusOn member months ago. He said he never sees anyone using a snus tool. But hopefully some more will chime in.

I've got a question. The first time I handbaked, it came out really well and stayed solid until I was done with it. I'm getting worse and worse, though. I'll pack it up nice, but when I put it in it'll catch on my lip or something and break in half or worse, crumble. It's Ettan and it's pretty fresh, it hasn't dried out or anything. How do I stick it in?!?!?! (haha, I know)

I think you have to hold your lip open with one hand, and put the pris in with the other. Kinda like some people do with their bottom lip with dip.
