    Took a break sorta

I realized yesterday I had probably not stopped chain snusing for nearly 6 months. Most especially since the Cigs left my life. I also realized that other then perhaps the morning, I didn't remember the last time I had a serious nic craving. When I was smoking, those were of course a part of my day. I'd be sitting at my desk and that craving would just get stronger and stronger.
So yesterday, I stopped all the snus and snuff! Don't panic, I only made it 3 hours. It was more done out of curiosity then anything else.
I hadn't thought about it much I guess, but this seems to be another of the many benefits of snus to me. I'm able to maintain as opposed to ride the slow rolling hills up and down. I'm certain I'm a much more pleasant person for it. With the limited places one can smoke anymore, I found a significant portion of my life considering when and where the next smoke could happen.

I'm sure I'm stating the obvious for many but for whatever reason these things just popped into my head. Maybe it's philosophical Friday or something .

I took a break for 10 hours last weekend... Then I woke up and put one in right away.

You articulated the biggest reason I love snus, and I have posted frequently about it.

Snus is just a far better nicotine delivery mechanism. Cigarettes hit you with this massive wave of nicotine, but it washes out of your system almost as soon as you stop smoking. So you are always jonesing for that next cigarette. Snus is so much smoother, and far more important, the nicotine stays in the blood stream far, far longer, and slowly leaves it. (Check out the charts of SM's site for the science behind this).

Being liberated from that constant "need" for another cigarette is truly a joy. I maintain my nicotine levels now without ever really even thinking about it. I may occasionally forget to put another snus in. And eventually, I will only vaguely begin to be aware that maybe another snus now would be good. But never a panic moment, I need my nicotine now sorta thing.

I love the taste of snus, I love the money I save, I love not smelling like an ashtray. But it is how it delivers my nicotine, how smooth that ride is, that keeps me using it day after day.

I've experienced this phenomenom, but *why* does the nicotine effect from snus last so much longer? Whether it enters through your lungs or your gums, it still ends up in your bloodstream...? :?

SM at least used to have a bunch of stuff on their website about it, can't remember the explanation though

Guessing it's kinda like the difference between a slow drip IV and a full blown injection.

My guess would be it's like the glycemic index thing in food. Saw a chart that shows just what a spike cigs create, then they tail way off. Snus delivers more nic after a decent interval, but it never approaches that towering spike, so the body doesn't have as far to "fall", as it were. Kind of like white potatoes versus sweet potatoes, maybe.

Also, my first poast. Hi, everybody.

Thanks, lxskllr. I've been lurking here for maybe a couple of months now. I really appreciate you guys, and all cool info I've picked up here.

And may I get something off my chest?

                    God bless Sweden!!

Ahem... just to try and get back on topic, I've been chainsnusing myself for weeks now. I looked around last night and noticed the huge pile of empties I'm growing. I just can't seem to throw any of them away. :?

I save all of mine too. I use them on occasion. They're convenient to put small items in. I especially like the Gotland tins, and I send them to school with my daughter, filled with almonds :^)

Yea, Sweden rocks. I mentioned before my buddy's trip to Norway, and it looked like an exceptionally cool country. I'd love to spend xmas in Scandinavia.

Thanks for the welcome, guys. Like I say, I've been reading here a while, and I really dig the forum. There's a real sense of community here, and a ton of useful information, too.

I'd much rather just tiptoe in than try and make a big splash, but at some point I'll probably share my own snusish (snusy?) experience.

And, yeah, I'd love to take a trip to Scandinavia myself.
