I'm not too worried. Worst come to worse we can smuggle it in.
It's official- the law just passed.

this is true. the FDA is also going to have to get organized and develop the department which is going to regulate/mandate tobacco, which could take up to a year. changes/decisions won't be made any time soon. also, this is about manufacturing tobacco in the US, nothing has been said about importing products, as sage said PACT is the bigger issue for us all.Originally posted by sagedilFWIW, the bill doesn't "ban" anything. It simply gives the FDA the "right" to. Until they start using the bill, no way to really tell if this will effect us at all. The PACT act is a much bigger issue, potentially, for us.

Here's the quote from the AP,- http://www.google.com/hostednews/afp...k1ZB4jcVY3yYCg"It bans cigarettes dominantly flavored with candy, fruit and spice by October this year, and forces tobacco firms and importers to submit information to the FDA about ingredients and additives in tobacco products."
BTW, Hello - I'm new to the forums, this is actaully my first post. Anyway. The AP clearly states cigs would be October of this year but then also goes on to say importers have to submit information about their products (which will be regulated). So it sounds like to me they are going to be cutting imports as well. Going to be interesting to see how this all plays out in the next few months, but I would guess we can kiss anything similar to a General Extra Sterk goodbye.

ia it was explained to be that current products are granfathered and can still exist as they are, but I'm not 100% on that.
already mentioned, dip products would be completely turned upside down

There is a move to ban high-nicotine brands and to reduce the amount of nicotine already present in tobacco products.Originally posted by rsuelzerSorry, not up to speed on the law. Why would General Extra Sterk be banned? How is that flavored product. And is the law for NEW products? Everything we use now is not new.
I would not worry since we import in small quantities anyway.
NOW does everyone realize why Phillip Morris was all for this? When you cut the nicotine content in half on all your cigarettes, what are people going to do? BUY MORE CIGARETTES!

Interpretation and then implementation of the provisions of this transfer of power to the FDA will be slow at first. Much remains in limbo, as to which tobacco products will feel the sting. Will e-cigs be impacted? How will dissolvable tobacco products like Ariva and Stonewall be affected?
So we wait. And stockpile as best we can. And know that Sage is right that a far greater threat looms with the PACT bill. That's a door-closer for imported snus and even pipe tobacco I order from Kentucky. Very few companies will jump through the hoops to comply with PACT's provisions for delivering tobacco products to residences.

Yeah, if it is for new products then it may be ok and since it is small quantities I doubt it goes checked. The law would allow the FDA to "control" nicotine in all products, while not eliminating it completly. I would think since it will be affecting imports as well that would mean anything with extra nicotine, will be off our US market. Plain and simple, I agree the goverment should step in with certain rules (ingrediants, advertising near schools, etc) but to control the product itself and types of flavors? Tobacco today, __________ tomorrow.Originally posted by rsuelzerSorry, not up to speed on the law. Why would General Extra Sterk be banned? How is that flavored product.
