Don't get into the habit of being a twice a day smoker. There's worse things for sure, but smoking during traditional smoking times makes the habit stick with you harder imo. Instead of a cigarette first thing, try snus. Smoke the cigarette later if you want one. Make sure you /really/ want the cigarette, and aren't just doing it out of habit.

Ok guys laugh if you want but...the best and cheapest thing I found to help with the hand to mouth addiction was lollipops They taste good...not good for the teeth but a hell of a lot better than a smoke. It really helped when I was around other smokers. I personally believe that if you want to make a conscious decision to quit smoking than doing so rather than gradually letting them go is the best route. It's what worked for me and it only took about 4 or 5 days to be free of the "habit" of smoking. Sure I still want a smoke every now and again and I messed up once or twice but the horrible smell will get to you and you won't want a follow up. This is my personal experience and is in no way more valid than any one else s opinion.

        Is your Snus strong enough?

When I first started snussing I used a lot of the strongest stuff and plenty of it. Now I don't snus by even a quarter of that amount - I now only go through 2.5 cans of Claq Qui a week. Cigarettes now taste terrible, I mean absoloutely stomach churning disgusting.

Keep up plenty of nic levels initially and as Sage said you'll eventually naturally ditch the cigs - guaranteed.

Well I woke up about 30 minutes ago. I put a portion of Skruf Stark in as soon as I woke up, and I feel great, no need for a smoke!

I actually managed to quit my pack a day habit with us camel snus. Granted, I was chaining them every 30 minutes. The next week I had some General portions. In the past two months I think i've smoked two cigarettes.

My wife quit smoking cold turkey a couple months before me. She has since started smoking a couple a day at work. Still havent been able to get her to try a portion. Maybe she'll see the light...

I tip my hat to you Dave! Going without that morning cig was the hardest thing for me! I finally just didn't have any on hand and didn't feel like going to the store in the morning.

Congrats on a smoke free morning! Keep up the good work!

Grats. Thats what did it for me (and got me badly addicted to snus). Once I felt that sterk and coffee rush I was hooked.

good deal dave. i hit my hardest time quitting smoking (chain smoker, 38 years) on my 3'rd day. it lasted for about an hour and a half, all i could do was sit on the couch and stare into space. once you get past the worst remember it so the other times don't seem so bad. i'm on my 13'th day now, food tastes better and my sense of smell is coming back. i'm on my first snus of the day (camel mellow, haven't had the real swede stuff yet) and hell, i don't even want a cigarette. hang in there.

You have no idea what you're missing. Go hit up www.getsnus.com and place an order. Now. Do it!

Back to the thread . . . It's now 1:20PM. I've been awake since 4:00 this morning. I had a portion of stark when I woke up and I've been using General white portion every few hours today. I feel awesome, and I have no desire to smoke whatsoever. Snus is a real life changer. Up until now I've been a 1 1/2 - 2 pack per day smoker. I already feel better. More energy, etc., and I smell good!

I have heard of the physical act of hand to mouth from smoking being an issue with other people. A friend of mine's aunt quit smoking but she would still every now and then grab a cigarette and pretend to smoke it, basically putting an unlit cigarette to her lips and taking a breath through it for about five minutes or so to get over the habit. If that doesn't work I have seen vapor cigarettes in random shops, they give you the feel of smoking but use water vapor instead of smoke. I think they may have some nicotine content as well, just something to look into.

It's a different delivery method; that will take some time for your body (and mind) to adjust to. I thought I was never going to be able to quit smoking when I first started snus, but I found myself gradually using the snus more than lighting up, until I finally just stopped buying the smokes altogether. YMMV, but it will happen eventually...

I recently learned of Snus, and found camel at the local store.
(waiting on order from Northerner) I have been smoking for 20 years.
between one and two packs a day. Since trying snus I am down to maybe five or six smokes a day.And alot of that has to do with not wanting another sticky sweet camel rather then then real desire for a cigarette. Today I skipped my morning coffee smoke and after dinner smoke. I figure if I want a smoke I have one. I am sure once I get my order in the mail the smokes will become even less frequent.
Well all this typing about cigarettes has made me want one , so I am going to go have a smoke .
