A week ago I was a pack a day smoker who had dabbled with dipping, but I hated the constant spitting. So when the Wawa I worked at announced it was getting Camel Snus I was pleasantly surprised to try it because it was market as being spit-less. I was a bit skeptical about this claim but decided I would try it anyway. As soon as it arrived I bought a tin of frost and popped one in. I felt the burn I expected, but was surprised that my mouth wasn't teeming with tobacco liquid I would have to expectorate every 10 seconds or so. Instead, it was almost like juice from a stick of gum and I could swallow it easily.

I found this amazing forum and read all about snus and got very interested in it and excited to try the world of snuses. Tuesday afternoon I ordered two tins of Oden's Extra Stark Licorice Portions because I love black licorice and strong nicotine buzzes, a tin of Claq Qui Stark Portions because it sounded like it had a unique flavor, a tin of General Onyx because it look beautiful and had bergamot flavoring (Which I love) and a tin of Gruv Los Snus because I wanted to try a los variety and it seemed like a straight-forward tobacco flavor. With the order I received a mystery tin of Goteborgs Rape White Portion which is quite nice and though I hate Gin, I love the mild juniper flavoring of this snus.

One question I have is about the Odin's Extra Stark Licorice Portions. Do they always have an akaline like smell to them? Or did I just get a bad batch. Also what would be a good choice, los or portioned, for my next licorice/anis flavored snus purchase (which will be very soon I can assure you! Thanks in advance and happy snussing!!

If you're going for portions, I'd recommend LD Black. They are very smooth portions and taste just like black licorice, with a little salt. For loose or portion, you can try OR Licorice (I've never had it in portions, only loose). It tastes just like black licorice, imo. Gotland's anis is a more herbal flavor, but very good if you are okay with its bitter undertones. I know that Mocca has some mini licorice portions, and Catch offers some licorice as well. Personally, I most recommend the OR Licorice, LD Black, and Gotland's Anis. Welcome to the forum.

Many snus will have a slight ammonia odor when first opened. I almost always give my new cans a day or two to "breathe" before use. Just crack the seal and leave them in the fridge.

Thanks guys. I took your advice on "breathing' my cans TBD and actually ordered two you suggested before even reading your reply mercvrivs. I got Off Road Cranberry Strong Portion, Gotlandssnus Anis Loose, Oden's Extra Stark Cinnamon Loose, Offroad Liquorice Loose. Gotlandssnus Flader Portion (sounded interesting to me), Rothbrix (Phantom) Classic Blue Loose and Ettan Loose. I'm having so much fun trying all these different kinds of snus. I don't think I'm going to touch a cigarette again now that I have so many choices of how I'd like my tasty nicotine fix . I can even uses snus at work! I'm sure you guys will see me around the boards a lot from now on. I'm so glad they have such a great site just for snus. I will most likely get an icetool next order. I can already foresee myself tiring of my prismaster awfully quickly.

Extra Strong (Sterk, Stark) snus has an alkaline odor due to the raised acidity levels to increase the uptake of nicotine. If it really bothers you, just order Oden's Licorice Portions (regular strength). Regular snus does not have that odor.

Thanks for the info snusjus. It doesn't really bother me much, I was just basically wondering if it was normally supposed to smell that way or not. Either way it is a great snus all-in-all I am just gonna continue searching for a more potent (tastewise) anise snus. Should get my next shipment tomorrow.
