    why?

I must admit when using american dip I liked to get a "monster buzz" on sometimes, and with snus I like to hang out in the 10-12 mg range. But I can't see the sense in upping the nic content so high in the new snuses.

I have heard that with stronger portions, you use less throughout the day. True? for me, the only thing stronger I've tried is 13mg claq qui, and I used just as much.

just seems like they had already figured out the right ranges... 4mg minis, 8mg normals and 12 mg strong. By increasing the nicotine all they're doing is setting the threshold higher just to say "me too!"

    any thoughts?>

Actually, it is not as simple as all that. Some of the stronger snuses hit harder than others. For example, I always found Nick and Johnny to be rather smooth. But the regular Skruf Stark hit me like a hammer, I didn't like that. Amount of nicotine is close to being the same. The new Skruf white, being a white, is a much better nicotine delivery for me than the regular, yet they have the same nicotine.

Now up until Thunder, I used the same number of portions whether I was using regular or strong. And that jibes with the research on Swedish snus users that show they do not adjust snus usage based on if they were using a regular or mini.

However, with thunder, which delivers the slowest, yet longest acting nicotine of ANY snus I ever tried, my snus usage has dropped dramatically on days I am using Thunder. I expect the other ultra strong snuses will be similar in that regard. So jumping up to the super strong snus HAS cut my usage down, by at least 50% if not more on days I am using Thunder.

So from a strictly money stand point, since Thunder is priced no more then regular snus, if all I used were these types of ultra strong snus, my tobacco budget would be cut by 50% or greater,

Of course, that won't happen, as I like so much other snus, but I do expect to see at least a 20 - 30% drop in money spent going forward, as I use the extra strong every other can of snus I use.

So I very much agree that the new super strong is just a "me too" phenomena. They seem to have developed a "better" nicotine delivery. And just to test, I used some General Sterk the other day, and I was back to using the same number of General Sterk as I would have if I had been using Pall Mall. Seems like the reduced usage, for me at least, doesn't kick in until we get to Ultra strong range.

Now if Skruf made an ultra strong regular that hits the same way their Stark hits, no way would I use it. I DON'T like getting hit in the face with nicotine

Yup... That's exactly what I've been saying. Over consumption's bad, whether it's food, alcohol, caffeine, or nicotine. More isn't better...

And I keep saying that Thunder is NOT about more, but a much longer acting nicotine delivery. Ultimately my old friend, until YOU try it for yourself, you simply won't really understand what I am saying.

I can easily keep regular lös snus in for 1.5-2 hours. The nicotine's fine, and I'm ready for a new flavor by then anyway. To be even on the nicotine, I'd have to keep Thunder in for 3-4 hours. I imagine the flavor would be pretty dead by then.

With dip it was easy to adjust your nicotine intake by changing how big a pinch you took. Using portion snus I find myself I find myself making it into an equation: regular portion, strong portion, two regular portions, regular and strong, extra strong, two strong, regular and extra strong, etc.

Stress seems to be my main variable, if my stress levels go up I counter with strong (and fast) nicotine. I always start the day with a GES and that is plenty. If the work day goes south, I may find myself doubling up on GES, on a regular day I may alternate single GES and regular portions. This does affect how long I keep one in, though. I put in two N&J Originals after lunch today and noticed I still had them in when I got home around 6:00 tonight.

You are the way I used to be, always had to have snus in my mouth. Thunder has changed that for me. I actually go 1 - 2 hours with nothing in my mouth. 2 years in, and I am finally not chain snusing. Yes, if you MUST have snus in your mouth, then maybe Thunder isn't for you. For me, at least, I m learning to enjoy the breaks, as I find I appreciate the snus even more when it finally is time for more snus.

But I can't help stress enough. For me, at least, Thunder is NOT about getting more nicotine for the sake of more Nicotine. It is simply about having the most amazing nicotine plateau I have ever had with snus.

I don't chainsnus like I used to. Nasal snuff has made a nice diversion for me. I have snus in for 1-2 hours typically, then about 1 hour off. Today I've had 3 pris of snus, and snuff sprinkled in liberally here and there. That's a little light. I typically have about 6 pris of snus during the day as of late.

Out of curiousity, is it the consensus here that most of the difference in nicotine delivery (for snus with a given mg level) arises from the amount of sodium carbonate in the recipe? I understand that nicotine absorbtion through the gums is much faster in more alkaline juice.

If so, then Thunder may simply have lower amounts of soda ash, so that less nicotine is absorbed at the gum, more in the stomach.
