Wintergreen, do Europeans even like it?

I have been wondering about this for awhile now. From what I have read on the forum about Offroad and General Wintergreen, it doesn't seem to me that too many of our European friends are even too interested in the flavour. It seems like a flavour pointed directly at American consumers. Is this just a marketing move by Snus makers to take over America? Because that would be just super

I've never tried anything marketed as having a wintergreen flavour, myself, and so have no idea! I think it's just an uncommon taste to Europeans.

They should make snusses for the British market... mmm, black pudding flavoured snus...

    ... maybe not, eh!

It's not that I actively avoid anything "Wintergreen" but just that:
      (A) I have plenty other more interesting flavors to try out first
      (B) The word "Wintergreen" don't tell me jack. Might as well call it Summerpurple for all I care. It's non-descriptive. All I can think of is that it's prolly "fresh". Yeah, no doubt.
I'll try it in time. I got a can of Offroad Wintergreen portions waiting in the freezer. Won't be opened for a while tho.

I guess that is kind of what I was trying to get at. Is this a flavor made directly for the American market? If so, what a glorious thing that would be. Could this be the start of a "Swedish snus invasion" a la the Beatles?!? Hey, a guy can dream

I think it's definately aimed at America - wintergreen doesn't actually exist as a flavour in the UK, and I can't remember having seen it on my travels around the rest of the continent (and I've been around a fair bit).

Strawberry? Yep. Spearmint? Yep. Liquorice? Yep. Wintergreen? Er, what's that, a kind of paint?

For the most part it's an American flavour.

Hi, I love wintergreen. Wintergreen is the same flavour as the muscle ache cream called Deep Heat(UK), smells. Think of the smell of the Rugby changing room, No!, the the BO, the minty, odd smell.
Who said Christmas pudding flavoured snus? send me a log (slang term for a roll) of that, A Yule Log, non-the-less
            Happy Easter everyone M

Sounds a bit like Euthymol toothpaste - I always thought that tasted like Deep Heat. If so, I may well really like wintergreen, 'cause euthymol is the toothpaste of kings!

Thats why swedish match was sending out the free cans of wintergreen with orders. Wintergreen is the flavor of the United States.

the "wintergreen" flavor is based exclusively on artificial flavorings which were originally developed as a copy of eucalyptus and menthol oils. Nasty if you ask me, but i only eat or drink something that at least looks or smells natural. There is no such thing as wintergreen berries out there.

Apparently it is natural according to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Methyl_Salicylate

oil of winter green....the chemical methyl salicylate, which gives plants a distinctive "medicinal" smell when bruised. This oil is used in some kinds of chewing gum and candy, as an alternative to the more common peppermint and spearmint oils
Is this the same stuff? It says a teaspoon of it will kill a child :S

In my childhood, I've tried a wintergreen chewing gum, but only once. It didn't kill me but it tasted horrible.

wintergreen has always been nasty with me as far as tobacco is concerned. in gum and candy it's not bad at all....with tobacco it tastes totally bastardized and overpowering and gives me headaches.
i can do mint, spearmint, 'ice' etc...not wintergreen. probably the absolute worst flavor i think. i'm referring to american dip that is.
                            i don't understand it's popularity whatsoever.

That's exactly what I thought when I tried wintergreen snus, I love the wintergreen flavour (I'm English, we don't get many wintergreen products here but friends have brought me wintergreen sweets etc. back from USA) but thought it was absolutely vile when mixed with tobacco, totally overpowering and did not compliment it at all.

I suppose it would be ok if you loved the taste of wintergreen, but didn't like the flavour of tobacco. A bit like fruity "alchopops" for people who don't like the taste of beer etc.
