    Getsnus.com advertisement in Rolling Stone

Did anyone see this? Getsnus took out a full page, back-page ad in the new Rolling Stone with Bruce Springstein on the cover. In the ad they tout the relative health benefits of switching from cigs to snus, the discreetness, no spitting, etc. Featured are two large pics of N&J East (nasty!) and General White minis, with the caption "try one tin for free!" or something.

    Not Camel, but Swedish snus...

Our "secret" is out. This sh*t better not get more expensive!

PS: I find it amusing that Camel only seems to be introducing people to the good stuff. I'm glad I didn't have to suffer through Camel to eventually stumble upon traditional snus. Never tried it. I was coincidentally introduced to snus just weeks before Camel hit Seattle.

Great, now the government is sure to make sure our snus is taxed. Grrr....One more reason I don't like Getsnus.

And then the Coca-Cola company will endorse a Coke-flavored energy snus.

I'm surpristed that www.getsnus.com made an ad for Rolling Stone! That's pretty cool, since millions of smokers could be saved from the diseases caused by cigarette smoking. On the flip-side, I like (real) snus being a counter-culture community. Don't be surprised if we get a large number of new members soon.

Not to reopen old wounds, but Getsnus's forum makes some sense now. With a lot of new people checking out a little known product, having a place to discuss it makes good business sense.

I hate the specter of higher prices due to taxes or advertising. OTOH, snus being more popular and saving other smokers, and being more available on the American market is a good thing.

Hey we were all punks at one time. Some of the young'uns here ARE.

And some of us old guys never grew out of it.
Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to hide the bodies of the people I killed because they were annoying......

I've been wrong lots of times.  Lots of times I've thought I was wrong only to find out that I was right in the beginning.

We have survived the influx before. Some of us here even predate Camel snus. We will be OK, and I am here to sweetly welcome and set right each and every new one that finds us.

I hate to play devils advocate here, and I know I'm probably going to make a few enemies, but I feel like some perspective is in order here. This forum has, as long as I've been a part of it, been very open and inclusive. I feel like the attitude most of you are showing in reaction to this ad is one that borders on the one you might expect from a fraternal organization or Christian Fundamentalists. Who are we to "set people right" or to "keep out the punks" or the "riff raff"?

Just because we were here before the getsnus forum does not make us better, or righter, or more authoritative snusers. I think that their forum is not inferior to ours or a threat, just another avenue people who want to find a way to reduce their harm from smoking without giving up their nicotine can find an alternative. I feel that many of us are reacting with a message that if you don't get your snus advice from us, it can't be right, and how much sense does that make? We are just enthusiasts, with our own opinions and different preferences; just because me largely agree on many topics doesn't make these opinions fact.

For hundreds of years the common consensus was that the earth was flat, and detractors of that theory were seen as heretics. I don't see our forum as that type of despotic "groupthink" oligarchy, and I think we should be glad someone stateside is trying to get the word out about this new product.

Granted, it may become more expensive, but it may also become more available. Other tobacco companies might adopt the ingredient list as an industry standard, and the US government, upon study of snus may institute the Gothiatek standard or something like it as a requirement on more if not all smokeless products.

I understand that part of the appeal of snus is its "underground" mystique, and that a change in general is an uncomfortable uncertainty, but isn't the best part about snus its relative health benefits compared to cigarettes? And isn't it selfish of us to want to keep secret that benefit from more people? I thought we wantedore people to find snus so we could live in a society where people didn't have to huddle around an ashtray in winter wind, and where our meetings at work didn't have to he interrupted by en masse smoke breaks. I don't want to offend anyone with my opinion, and I certainly don't want to make anyone feel bad for having an opinion, just put out a different perspective.

I agree with your statements completely. All I meant by "keep out the punks" was that I don't want to see our unique and very cool forum to change for the worse. This is the first forum that I have really enjoyed and felt apart of, just don't want to see that change. I look forward to waking up everyday, grab my coffee and snus and log on to see what crazy things PP has said!

Nice comments cocsp2002. I don't think you offended anyone at all. I started this thread mainly because I was so shocked to see what in American is certainly a fringe product with a very marginal consumer base being suddenly advertised in a magazine like Rolling Stone. My comment that "our secret is out" was a reflection of how different it will be when the masses become familiar with these weird little pouches I stuff into my upper lip! And as a cause for concern that snus will be heavily taxed in the future. As we all know, ordering snus from Sweden is ridiculously cheap compared to tobacco alternatives!

I think it would be great if a shitload more people began to participate in this forum. Hell, I am a relative noob as well. Haven't even snused for a whole year. I have no comment about Getsnus's forum because I have never visited their site. I'm completely content with snuson and buysnus.com, or for those that don't know, a german site called snuskaufenonline.de that will ship Monte Cristo and R&J to the USA.

And I totally agree that all smokers deserve to be aware of the benefits of snus. But I am still quite surprised by this full page ad in Rolling Stone! Crazy. Camel must be pissed. All are welcome here in my book, even the punks. I am a bit of a punk myself the way I toss my obnoxious opinions around sometimes, ie: Thunder blows! Hahaha. I can't wait to finish this damn can. Snus on my new snuson friends. Sorry my posts are always so goddamn long
