Received My V2 Order; First Reflections...

I received my new V2 order. Getsnus made a mistake and gave me Phantom Blue instead of Offroad Original, but I contacted them so I think I should be able to do an exchange or something. Anyway, I'm happy that I received it and have tried a few of the offerings so far. I will review them all on this thread as I go.

First, I tried Phantom Classic loose. I like it better than Phantom Blue. I'm not sure exactly how much I like it yet. I was expecting it to be more like Granit/LD/General type snus. I am going to keep trying it and see how it grows on me, but for now I can say that it is a mellow snus that is slightly sweet, with mainly tobacco and citrus flavors. I don't taste the peppery undertones that some people have mentioned, but maybe I'll pick up on them as time goes on. It is very unique, whereas I find a lot of snuses to be pretty similar to one another.

Offroad Icemint: I was very surprised by this snus. Is it supposed to be long cut? I almost wonder if maybe this is a batch of long-cut wintergreen that just had the Icemint labels accidentally put on it. It smells like Grizzly. It is long cut, which I did not expect since it's not labeled as such. I upper-decked it, which was okay but not great. Then, I bottom-lipped it, and I must say that it is basically like doing dip that you don't have to spit and that doesn't tear your gums to all hell. Flavor was good. It tastes like spearmint and wintergreen. If you like longcut, I'd recommend it highly. In fact, I think that this snus is perfect for dippers. For me, I'll enjoy doing this one every once in a while, but I think I'll stick with finer ground varieties.

Offroad Cranberry: Still working on this one. I'm having a hard time tasting the cranberry very strongly right now, after only one pris. The consistency was good though, and it seems like it's decently balanced between tobacco and cranberry.

Licorice: I tried this one in the past and am excited to have it again. I love this snus because it tastes just like black licorice. I think this is probably a rollworthy snus for me, since it ranks in my top 5 of all time, and I've lately been shying away from the bitterness of Gotland's anis.

Anybody care to elaborate on how Offroad Original loose compares to Phantom Classic? I'm interested in how similar/different they taste.

Phantom classic: Primarily tobacco taste, peppery tones that come out as the tobacco warms under your lip and bold citrus. A very unique snus. One of my favorites.

Offroad Original: Peppery tobacco taste with a distinct bergamot sweetness and a citrus undertone. Smells a bit like pez candy mixed with peppercorn inside the can. The sweet smell is far more mellow under the lip and is quite enjoyable.

Overall, they are two completely different flavors. I buy both by the roll.

Thanks for telling me about the flavors again Xobe.

I've been doing the Phantom classic, and it's really starting to grow on me. On my second pris of it I was able to taste the peppery notes, and you're right; they come out as it warms in your mouth. I'm very happy because, besides General, this is the only snus I've found that actually has that peppery taste to it. It has a bit more sweetness to it than General, but I like it because it's not overly sweet and its lack of bitterness makes it a snus that I can do all day. I'm actually very impressed, especially for the price (9.00 for a 5-pack). I am going to order a roll to stock up before the Holidays.

The associate at Getsnus was helpful in remedying the order mistake. I'm happy, but I was not surprised since they've always had good customer service.

I'm excited to try the Offroad Original. The flavor profile you describe for it (a la LD loose) is one that I like almost as much as the citrus/pepper.

You'll definitely find the peppery notes in the Original easier than in the Phantom.

I have had LD loose, and I will say that the Offroad has a bit more of a floral accent to it that comes out as you catch the sweet smell of it.

The initial smell in the can is somewhat overpowering, but once under the lip, the sense of taste and smell come to a great balance.

Let me know what ya think

I tried the cranberry again and could taste it better this time. It's a lot more mellow than I would have thought, and less sweet. It's like plain, good tobacco with cranberry undertones, although for some reason it seems to have a hint of cool mint to it.

If Offroad has more dominant pepper tones, I'm in for a treat. I really like how easy on the gums all of them are.

According to Getsnus, Icemint is not longcut. Because of this, I strongly suspect that what I received is Offroad Wintergreen Longcut that's been mislabled. They said they would notify V2. I can see how such a mistake could occur easily, especially in a small factory. I'm not too disappointed though, since I wanted to try the WG LC eventually. Hey, if anybody wants to buy/trade for a very limited edition can or two of Offroad wintergreen lc that's labeled as Icemint, let me know .

Once again, I'm very happy that I decided to give V2 a more serious shot. I'm even going to try Phantom Blue again. I know I'll still stock some RL and other stuff for variety, but I think I'm going to be keeping my fridge well-stocked with Phantom Classic, Offroad Licorice, and possibly Offroad Original.

Yeah, that definitely sounds like a mixup. Icemint does not come in a long-cut. Only Pure tobacco and American Wintergreen.

              Update:
I received my Offroad Original today (thanks Getsnus!) and I am on my second pris at this moment. At first, the floral sweetness was overpowering, but I could detect the pepper tones easily. It is very unique. It is definitely what I would call a sweet flowery/peppery tobacco with a hint of citrus. Personally, I like Phantom Classic a lot more, but I will use my present supply of OR Original for mixing things up every once in a while. It may even grow more on me; we'll see. EDIT: I am not a big fan of this one in particular. I thought it was going to be like the LD bergamot profile, but the flowery taste is a little too much for me. I guess I'll keep it in the freezer as a back-up.

I have been doing Phantom Blue now as well and I like it. I can taste the hints of Juniper, but it also tastes like ginger ale sometimes. I've also been lower-lipping the OR Wintergreen (in Icemint Cans ) that I received. However, while it's a treat to have variety, my top two are Phantom Classic and Offroad Cranberry. I am stocking up on both.

I'll update as my tastes progress.
