    Hello All

Hello, I just joined snuson.com, been a reader for a little while tho. Saw some videos on youtube on using snus to stop smoking and so far it has been working for me. Being in Ohio I started off by trying Triumph and I must say both flavors arent too bad. It has been a couple weeks now and I just got in my first true order of swedish snus. Decided to go with minis at first while im trying to sample flavors. I ordered General White minis and the Northerner Energy Snus (keep me awake in class being a college student and all) and i must say the flavors are totally different and refreshing! I havent smoked in about 2 weeks and I can already feel a difference in my health. I hope to chat to you all and maybe one day be away from nicotine all together. One step at a time!

    Church -

Welcome to SnusOn! Glad to see you decided to quit smoking; it's probably one of the best investments in your health you could make! I think you'll find that we here love our snus, and love arguing...ahem...debating about which is best, which ones are good values, which ones have the most flavor, etc. You name it, we'll post on it.

I'm curious, though, why you're interested in quitting nicotine. Not that I'm discouraging you, just wondering why you want to go that route. Snus is probably the safest nicotine delivery system on the market. Yes, some people will post about Ariva and Stonewall tobacco pills, and they are very pure, but for some reason I have a hard time accepting it as a tobacco alternative. Just my opinion; try them if you like, lots of people like them.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy your General; it's by far my favorite snus. Maybe in the future you'll gather enough courage to try the loose version! I haven't tried any of the "energy snus", but if you enjoy them as well, more power to you!

Well, hopefully we'll hear a lot more from you in the future, and maybe we can help guide you though the vast world of snus!

To be honest I dont know I think part of it is the anticipation or crankiness i might get when i havent had my share of nicotine in awhile. However, with snus it get alot of different kinds of satisfaction besides my crave for nicotine so its a whole new world that so far I am enjoying and alot more discrete

I agree. The snus "high" (buzz?) is a lot better than cigarettes. Also, don't forget, it's not the nicotine that's necessarily bad for you, it's the TSNAs. Basically, TSNAs are chemicals in the tobacco that are specific TO tobacco; these are what raise your risk of cancers.

Take a little time and look up some medical studies on snus. It's been in use in Sweden for about 200 years, so there's been ample time for long term studies. Anyway, in short, only one study found that there is a nominal risk of an increase in pancreatic cancer (about 9 in 1000 snusers). Snus has not been found to be related to increases in cardiovascular disease, oral cancer, esophageal cancer, or any GI cancers over long term use, with the exception of extreme high usage (think 3-4 cans A DAY). As far as I know, there is only one documented case of snus causing oral cancer, and it was that 3.5 can a day user I mentioned. I also believe he was in his late 70s when he was diagnosed.

They call it "reduced harm" for a reason. The risk still exists, regardless of how small. Anyway, happy snusing and we look forward to hearing your impressions!

          Welcome to the forum, church!

Don't forget that tobacco is a medical plant. It's only the smoke, that gave tobaco a bad name and started the "all-tobacco-is-evil"-witchhunt of today. For some of us nicotine equals medicine, me included. Nicotine hasn't the same extremely positive impact on all people, though. So, it's just everyone's personal decision to quit or not to quit and I guess no one here on the forum has a problem with that.

If there's one thing that I can guarantee you, then that if you like miniportions, you'll love regular and strong portions, not to mention loose snus.

          Keep us updated!

          Cheers!

Nicotine is an analgesic and an anti-septic. Furthermore, it can be used to repel insects. It also seems to aid schizophrenics in decreasing the occurrence of hallucinations. It also stimulates dopamine production, although the effects of nicotine on depression are debatable since it also can deplete seratonin. Tobacco has been a part of human society for almost as long as organized religion (c. 5000 BCE), and has been used for purposes ranging from religious rites to medicinal treatments and personal leisure.

The main risks associated with nicotine itself are addiction and cardiovascular/pulmonary problems; however, I think that these are drastically reduced in snus compared with cigarettes (in large part because snus lacks Carbon Monoxide and other chemicals released in combustion, all of which increase the risks substantially).

                Welcome to the forum church,

You are right, it is a whole new world of experience. Almost 20 months in, that is the part that still brings me so much pleasure. There are so many more tastes awaiting you, I can't wait until you have tried some of the other snus out there.

Again, welcome to the best club on the net filled with ex-smokers.

Welcome to the forums! I know that Swedish Match recommends minis for smokers wishing to quit, but I just don't think they have enough nicotine to curb the cravings... I use large original and white portions, and occasional stong portions, and I'm smoke free for over a month...

welcome church and join the rest of us "former" smokers. I quit a month ago on stonewalls and more recently snus. I smoked for 17 or so years and found quitting is now more trivial than a struggle with the help of nicotine alternatives. My health is obviously better now with breathing and just overall feeling better. Snus filled a few gaps that I desired in nicotine replacement therapy. Mostly convience. Not having to spit, discreetness, with portions, not having to wash my mouth out, and just getting enough nicotine with strong portions to quell my cravings. I hope you find quitting as easy as I have (not to say there will be a few challenging moments) and enjoy snus too. I am still trying to find the snus I like the most but i'm confident and determined to do so.

                    Welcome and good luck!

This sums it up! There's a difference between ex-nicotine-addicts (who mostly turn into assholes, and I even understand these poor souls) and people who just changed the way to get their fix. BTW, I, personally have already had almost too much nicotine for today, switching between Skruf Stark Portions, Ettan Lös, General Sterk and Jakobsson's classic, so take it for what it's worth LOL.

                      Cheers!

Welcome church. I was in the exact same boat as you; I wanted to quit smoking and used Triumph snus at first, then I discovered the great varieties that Swedish snus has to offer. Personally, strong portion snus is the only type that curbs my nicotine cravings. I would recommend trying Nick & Johnny Stark, Skruf Stark, and General Sterk (all 11mg nicotine/pouch). They all taste different but have very good flavors. Try all three and pick what you like the most. If regular snus (8 mg nicotine/pouch) satisfies your nicotine cravings, then start with those. After a while, I would recommend switching to strong mini snus (6mg nicotine/pouch) and then go to regular mini portion (4mg nicotine/pouch). Once you get used to the regular mini portions, you can probably quit nicotine all together with much less effort as compared to quitting cigarettes cold turkey (I never have been able to).
