Actually it is the salt together with pressure that can irritate the lip if the snus/dip is on the dry side

I've heard this same urban legend for years in regard to American snuff, but I've never seen any evidence to back it up. Other additives I've heard of is fiberglass, asbestos, and formaldehyde.
