    Trouble buying snus...

    This is a rant.

It would be so much easier to buy cigarettes at the corner store, but I've been smoke free ever since using snus and it's been a few years now. I'm sticking to this healthier way of getting nicotine, working out, eating right, and all that. However, when the PACT act went into effect, I was unable to get Swedish Snus in Massachusetts for a while. I had to resort to using the horrible US brands in order to remain smoke free, even though they refused to tell me the ingredients. Finally, Northerner got their license to sell Swedish snus here. Because I work full time and am not at home to sign for packages, I was forced to have it shipped to my place of employment. The people I worked with began asking me questions, like "What is this? Chewing tobacco? Why does someone over 21 have to sign for it?" They started making jokes about me behind my back, saying I was using my office trash can as a spittoon. My coworkers who smoked cigarettes were left alone, but I was the subject of ridicule. One day, when they were ragging on me about a delivery, I opened up the box and showed them that it was snus, not chewing tobacco, but they still kept picking on me.

I now have a new job and a fresh start, so I decided to get a UPS box for delivery to save going through this again. It took three trips to the UPS store to get the box opened. After finally succeeding, which included giving them my drivers license and car registration, watching them scan it and put it into a file, and paying over $100 for six months rental fee, I came home to order some snus from Northerner online. My credit card was rejected! What? I have excellent credit and pay my balance in full every month! I called my credit card company to ask them what the story was. While I was on my landline phone listening to their recordings, my cell phone rang. It was my credit card company calling me. She said, "Did you place an order with Northerner.com?" I said, "Yes, and it was rejected, but I don't know why because I pay you off in full every month!" She said, "We rejected it because the order was from out of the country." Then she apologised and told me that as soon as I hung up the order would go through, which it did.

WTF? Sometimes I swear that the US is trying to kill me by forcing me to smoke cigarettes by making it SO HARD to get snus. /rant

I ran into the UPS problems as well since regular shipping arrives at my house after I leave for work (2:30 or so p.m.). I now pay the extra 2 bucks or so for the 'other' shipping option and my stuff gets here at around 10:00 a.m. Just letting you know in case that is an option you can try. I haven't bought from Northerner in a long time, so I can't verify if they have the 2 different UPS shipping options.

And the Credit Card: There are a number of CC issuers that do that. Mine has never asked, but I've read a few people on here have some issues with overseas purchases as well. Quick call to the bank/issuer and they usually clear up from what I remember (like yours did).

Never had that problem with Northerner pre-PACT, but I did have it happen once or twice when I used to buy from BuySnus with my VISA debit card. Took two calls to the bank to get them to realize that, no, seriously, it was really me making a purchase from Sweden.
