new to snus-having trouble

I ordered offroad apple original portions, skruf cranberry potions and catch dry menthol mini white portions.

The mini catch seem to be really good but the other two smell like crap and ive only tried the offroad apple. The flavor wasnt horrible until out of nowhere it started juicing like crazy and tasted horrible. Is it normal for there to be a lot of juice? It was almost like dip spit.

Im folding the portions and putting them under my upper lip, am i doing something wrong or is offroad apple just crap? Im going to try the skruf in a few minutes. Whats a good beginner snus and is loose with a prismaster much harder than portions?

Offroad Apple's pretty bad imo. V2 isn't generally well regarded by snusers, though they do have some fans. You should have fewer problems with snus running as you use it more, and when it does run it won't taste bad when you use good snus ;^)

I don't think there is any beginner snus really. You should probably stay away from the stark snus, but other than that, it's all personal preference. If you like mini portions, maybe explore that route a bit. If you like licorice, LD Black is very good. I also have some Vertigo minis I'm currently using. These are marketed towards women, but I find the flavor pleasant. I'd maybe consider getting them more if they were full sized portions.

I for one have never tried the portions you mention above.

I can really only think of 1 or 2 posters that actually like offroad. Some have compared their portions as tasting too much like fake chemical flavors.

I however can not judge them so i will not give judgment on your portions of choice.

Original portions do seem to juice alot more than white portions. I for one enjoy that and really like original portions over white portions.

Also since i do not know your taste preference i would ask you to try some of the upper tier snus' out there such as General Onyx which packs a huge nic punch and the flavor is a lemony/peppery flavor that has a gentle flavor trickle with a hint of slatiness and lasts for a while. If you prefer less juice just make sure you place it in the front of your mouth in the upper lip away from the major salivation that occurs in the bottom of your mouth and then runs to the back. Thats why most put their snus in the front. Some use the sides because they actually want alot of flavor.

Also try the new Jakobsons Portions. They are currently my favorite portions made. Gotland (who makes jakobsons) seem to use alot of snus in their portions and has a great flavor.

But just browse the forums as there are alot of posts on taste and there is actually a sticky thread on tastes compared at the top of the forum.

General's the Swedish favorite. I like it ok, but there's others I like better. I'd get it just for the "standard" in snus. There's nothing wrong with Skruf. It's very well regarded by other snusers, but it isn't my favorite. The quality's top notch, but their house flavor just doesn't agree with me. My disparaging comment was reserved for V2 tobacco. They make Phantom, and Offroad snus. There are some fans (cue Xobloot :^P), but I'd stay away from them being a new snuser. Be sure to try them out if you get into snus, but I wouldn't consider them representative of Swedish snus at all.

Oh, I think I see where you may have thought I said to stay away from Skruf. When I said to stay away from stark snus, I meant strong, stark=strong, General Onyx, Skruf Stark, Offroad Strong. I was thinking that a stark(strong) snus might be too much for a beginner. If you think you'd like the extra nicotine though, it might be right up your alley.

Offroad apple = roadkill apple .... to be honest, i've given em EVERY chance to not suck, i've tried EVERY flavor they've ever marketed and have yet to find one that was truely " enjoyable " once the newness of the flavor wore off and you were left with a poor quality tobacco product. I've REALLY tried to like em.... it just ain't working

Skruf cranberry = to me the cranberry taste is too " perfumey " i dont know how else to describe it, it has this odd cloying aftertaste thats inescapable when you breath ... i had the same trouble with the pomagranite from mocca though i like the new mocca stark mini's

the catch dry menthol i got in my first order, they wern't bad, but not even close to as good as the catch white eucyliptis is...

judgeing from your initial choices, your tastes look to run VERY similar to mine, i currently have over 65 tins of snus open in my fridge, each one different as i went on a 3 month long buying tasting spree trying to narrow down my likes and dislikes to find what would work for me long term.


what i've settled on is 3 to use in rotation

Jakobsons Icefruit
Gotenborgs rape no2 white
Catch white euycaliptis ( not dry )

I would strongly suggest these 3 to any new snuser, especially one concerned with " dip spit " juice

the 3 of them are all mellow, smooth tasty refreshing, without the strong bitter pure tobacco undertones your gonna find in almost everything else that seems to be a mainstay of the snus producer and consumer.


just the $0.02 of a fairly new snuser who has 1 of just about everything made open atm, drying out and ruining in the fridge, waiting to be tossed due to lack of use.

I would suggest trying a few white portions. Both the Göteborgs Rapé portions are an excellent choice as suggested, as is General and Roda Lacket

I found that the longer I snus the less juice I get

When I started snus-ing portions started to run after about 10-15 mins. Now I keep it a portion in for at least 40 mins before it starts running.

Also the smell is something you get used to, but the Skruf products are quite pungent in comparison to something like Ettan .....personally I am big fan of Skruf and Knox.

I like the offroad apple portions, but I don't know why. They do not taste like apple. (I cant nail down the flavor). That being said; if you are looking for an apple flavor, try the Gotlands green portions. They taste alot like green apple to me and won't run quite as bad as an offroad portion. I gota agree with others sugesting the Goteborg Rape #2. White portions don't run as much and this one has the best berry flavor I have ever tried.
