    Why can't I taste Los?

    Ever?

Even the smell of stuff like Ettan, Roda Lacket, General, etc. Just doesn't smell or taste like portions. Doesn't taste like anything, really. There is a strange hint of flavor that I am guessing is bergamot, which I am also assuming I must not like too much..

It's been 7 months since I started snusing and I can't taste any of it.

I can taste Skruf a "little bit" but there is something about the flavor/smell of Los that just doesn't appeal to me. I can also slightly taste GES Los, which I do like, but eh. Nothing special compared to the portions.

I can crack open some N&J, or GESP, or Jak's Classic Strong and it smells so delicious, but Los snus smells like.. Nothing. Smoky Windex.

I can taste portions in all of their deliciousness, while Los even after an hour I can barely even notice a flavor.

    What's up with that?

When I first started snusing I used only Los, but once I tried some tasty portions I pretty much stopped using Los. I revisit it every couple weeks but it's always the same. Nothing. No taste, Weird smell, and general displeasure.

Am I just using the wrong "brand?"

Is the common denominator in stuff like Skruf, Roda Lacket, bergamot? Maybe I don't like bergamot. I like N&J and Jak's flavor..

Skruf, RL, and General have a bergamot flavor base but the likes of Ettan, Grov, and Thunder do not. Shame that los has yet to capture your fancy for it is beloved by many veteran snusers for its subtle complexities. It is very true that a los version of a given brand is usually a very different animal from its portion brethren and must be approached on its own merits so comparisons are difficult if not entirely pointless. For a los flavor wham try some Thunder Frosted--big nic, strong flavor--finest kind los experience.

Is that a mint flavor? Hmm.. I may try it but I'm not much of a mint flavor kinda guy. If they made Jak's Classic Strong in los and kept the strong flavor I think it'd be amazing. Or N&J. I hear that Odens Extreme Los has good flavor so I want to try that too.

I have no patience for los. I am spoiled by the convenience of portions. Los takes too long for the flavor to come through, plus it's a bitch to use at work.

+1 With the one exception of Gotlands Gul Los, there is just nothing else like it.

Los tastes less salty to me. Maybe it's the lower salt content that makes the los less flavorful?

Los is not merely what I call the Zen of snus but it also is in a real sense an entirely different product and its appeal, and its rewards, are far different in intent and character. Portions are for the go anywhere anytime nic delivery requirements of the busy person whereas los is meant somewhat more for the home and relative quiet and contemplation. Not that too much should be made of these differences, I've used los at work any number of times, but they should be taken into account. Los compares to portions in the same way that a pipe compares to cigarettes.

Hey bro...los is a bit more subtle, but to me tastes more 'pure' and fresh. It is less salty, and maybe that's what you're experiencing. I'd give Grov Los a shot...it's one of my favorites, you may like it. Stick with it dude...you'll find a los you like.

Are you packing your pris tight? Sometimes I do that with my icetool. Just for the hell of it one day try the hill billy pinch method. Trust me you wont miss the flavor then.

I don't know that I would still be using snus if all I could get were portions...Los to me is wonderful! To each his own, I guess...

It does add another element to snus taking.

Xobeloot posted this tip when I was starting out: close your lips, then puff out your upper lip. The prilla will rise up off your gums, sticking to your lip. Deflate your lip and the prilla goes back into place, thereby allowing you to better taste the lös. Also helpful for repositioning/extracting.

I do this as well. It took me several attempts to get used to and begin to enjoy lös. I was used to the immediate and more pronounced taste from portions. Going from ettan op to lös was not a satisfying experience. I had also recently quit smoking so my burned out buds were still fritzed. After a while though, I began to notice and enjoy the more subtle tastes and now I lös exclusively at home w/ a portion here or there. Maybe try some of the more flavor heavy lös out there. Ettan and general lös are no where near there portion counterparts...
