Kardus? Or, the why is there no long cut snus?

    http://www.buysnus.com/snus-news.aspx?page=kardus&id=37

I used to dip ocassionally. I see the picture in the link above and say, Hey! A long cut snus!

I know Offroad used to make their long cut wintergreen, but I tried Offroad Original once and it tasted terrible.

Anyway, is there a reason there isn't any long cut snus? I like portions I guess, but I am not opposed to loose snus, and use it often at work or home, but a longer cut would be so much easier to use, and probably more accepted by Americans. Is there a reason you don't see it often?

By the way, the Kardus in the picture in the link above looks amazing and delicious!

Hey Gotlandsnus, why not try a run of a longer cut los snus? Gotlands Yellow Long Cut? Jaks Strong Classic Chopped Los?

You know, with the extra factory space and all...

Many have craved a natural longcut snus for years here and only V2 listened somewhat with 3 versions of mentholated/flavored longcut that was pretty hit or miss for most. The remaining Wintergreen production is over.

Your purists here think that los should always be puddy or portion but you really hit the nail when you bring up KARDUS...

That really is a anomoly with it's flavor and cut.

I believe Ettan and General should have a longcut version but SM believes dippers will like the fine cut puddy better.

The boss always knows best right?

Kardus got good feedback during testing, but it didn't sell well enough. I guess it was the higher price, and foreign feel. They release a special Kardus at xmas time, but it's very pricey. ~$80 for 100g of snus in a nice box. I'm pretty happy with the cut of snus as it is. Something like Grov, or V2 lös is about as coarse as I like.

You gotta look at it this way, snus is older than dip. The Swedes brought snus to the United States in the 19th century, but prior to that snus was beginning to reach popularity in Scandinavia. As we know from the story of the history of snus, In the 16th century snuff, which was a form of pulverized tobacco, was introduced to France. The story goes on to tell us that Jean Nicot, working for the French court, gave it to Catherine de' Medici for a headache. The more she used this, it become more popular among the monarchs and well to-do citizens. This snuff (which was inhaled), spread to Sweden in the 17th century. Later on around the 19th century, the Swedish began to develop moist snuff (which was an ORAL tobacco product used in the upper lip) and became known as snus. This tobacco was much like it's present form as we know lossnus.

The Americans began to deviate from the traditionally snus and made the long cuts and whatnot.

Long story short - why are their no long cut snuses? Because it's not traditional. Why would the Swedish companies want to make long cut snus for a product that has most of it's sales volume in Europe where people are used to the way snus is - ground and a more fine cut? Sure - a long cut snus would be more accepted by Americans, but up until recently the American market hasn't really been a concern for Swedish Snus manufacturers.

That being said, the American market IS growing. I would say even now there isn't a huge demand for long cut snus. As it stands - it is costly because it has to be ground differently, new people would have to be brought in (potentially), new graphics/new cans, and who knows if it would even sell? It's a risky venture for anyone to take on. In a few years - maybe - when snus is growing more in popularity it might be worth it then, maybe. As of right now the only way we'll see long cut snus is in limited edition form because it's all about demand and profit.

Maybe the demand would grow after they release a long cut snus. Maybe even change the name to something that doesnt sound so gay too. It's too bad I can't buy this stuff in the US. If they released it under a new name and did long cut versions that tasted more like chew or dip, then marketed it as "safer" than chew or dip I bet it would sell very very well in the US. Who knows maybe it would sell better than snus in europe too. This stuff has been made for a very long time. I'm not saying get rid of the "traditional" snus. Just use the knowledge and technology we have now to appeal to more people and taste better. Let's face it, a LOT of people want the taste of chew or dip, just without all the cancer causing and tooth decaying agents that are found in it.

I dig on the cut of Kardus, but all day, everyday it would be cloying. The richness that the cut provides is very intense although I like the way it all holds together and you can re-park it several times and not loose any prilla integrity. I do notice with this stuff also that my lip gets more shriveled than it does with a more traditional cut. I do prefer the more coarse grind but flavor is more important IMO.

I have an unopened box/can of Kardus 2009 sitting in my bedroom. I also have a container that's a bit over half-used. I just put a wad in after having neglected it for months; it's a little drier than it was, and maybe not quite as rummy (well, definitely not) as when it was new, but it's still pretty good.

I know this is a subject for the trading area, but since we're talking Kardus here, I just wonder if anyone would be interested in it? Naturally, I would offer it at a substantial discount; I'm talking the new^w unopened can, here.

Thanks, yeah, you me too, man. Things have been kinda ruff, but I have been feeling better the last few days.

I hope all is well with you as well.

I don't suppose you have a desire for any old Kardus, eh? ^^ You know, I still have one pris worth of the 2008 you sent me in the 'fridge. Heh, I wonder if it's still any good.

I still have a little over half a can of that Turkish Export, too. I smoked four cigs last night and this morning (going on a no-sleep marathon, getting ready to crash). I think that doubles my smoking for, like, the last year.

Boy, I have missed a lot, huh? I don't even know what's out there anymore. I just know I wish I'd bought a lot more General OP and a lot less of everything else. Oh well. I wonder if there's any market for some really old, continuously-frozen snus at mind-blowing discounts? Guess I might have to swing by the trading post one of these days.

I'm short on money, but luckily, long on snus :^)

I still have more than half a tin of Turkish left too. I smoke 1 or 2 cigs per week, but I roll 'em small. Honestly, for los snusers, the scene's been a bit of a drag. We lost a few brands, without others taking their place. Odens has been kicking ass, but most of their products are too strong for me. They're gonna slowly bring out regular strength snus, so they're definitely a company to watch. The snus they've been making in-house is first rate. Once they bring the strength down to reasonable levels, they'll really have my attention.

You should definitely throw the snus you don't want on the exchange. Near as I can tell, snus keeps forever. I'm happy with the ancient snus I have squirreled away :^)
