Use Tobacco? No job for you!!

Well here we go... Humana in AZ is not hiring anyone who uses tobacco of any kind. And they are testing you with saliva test.. If your positive.. No Job!!

What's next? BMI, Drive a motorcycle, Enjoying a cocktail?

Can someone say it's time to come up with the antidote... Kinda like synthetic urine for drug test...

Some companies are already taking BMI into account.

There are a couple hospitals in the states that test their employees with a nicotine test.

BS if you ask me... But it's a very dividing subject for sure. Throw authentic swedish snus in the mix and it gets pretty complicated and mis-understood in the USA.

          Crazy.. Hmm..

They test using a swab of the mouth so if big tobacco is listening out there it's time to come up with some type of gel or toothpaste that hides nicotine in the mouth saliva for let's say 8 hours.. Then you can do what you want when your not under their thumb..

In India there is a toothpaste with tobacco in i seem to remember. But would you really want to work for a company that do this to you? Not me. Then people complain when people go on welfare. Yes GN lol. There is a big argument to say tobacco users make for better workers in certain situations.

This has been going on in Canada for a few years now. Only in the private sector though. (government workers smoke like chimneys around here)
They usually ask if you smoke, however, not a word about smokeless.

To be honest, I understand why they do it (dont wanna start an argument over this). BUT,
It is proven, that smokers take breaks more often, therefore bringing productivity levels down.

However, this argument falls through for smokeless tobacco users, as they can sit in their office or cubicle enjoying their nicotine while working at the same time without bothering anyone.

In Ontario, Canada, Dip tobacco (moist snuff) isn't very popular at all, so of course snus is completely unknown. This is my opinion and my point of view of course

Ive been living in ontario for 8 years. To this day, Ive never met anybody in person that dips or snus'

Well maybe not smokers but snus users without any doubt at all. These policies are obviously aimed at smokers but smokeless just gets stupidly dragged into this petty and moronic rights infringement. In the case of snus the whole business is especially pointless, counterproductive even, but entrenched corporate cluelessness is as unstoppable a force as a mile-high glacier.

The private sector has no right (morally) to discriminate against employees who use a legal substance. I'm sick and tired of companies/corporations getting all of these special rights and privileges.

I think it's more to do with healthcare cost than productivity.. The productivity point is part of it but mostly it's a big insurance company trying to set an example for other companies that they insure. That way, other big corporations fall in line then guess what? It saves money for the healthcare insurance company.(Humana)

Now, there are states that they can't do this in because smokers are a protected class but AZ is not one of them so that's why they are doing it here first. Ironically, Humana is not implementing this at their corporate headquarters in Kentucky. Why? Smokers are a protected class in Kentucky.. (there are quite a few states that also have laws protecting smokers)

Such BS.. What about the the poor guy that enjoys a cigar 1 a week on the golf course. He's screwd as well.. The teat can not determine levels because nicotine can be detected for weeks after use..

PS- I keep saying smokers but this is for ALL tobacco users..
