    Can Snus Make You Fat?

I wonder how many calories you take on board with a portion of snus?

I mean I know you don't eat snus but you do swallow snus juice (well I do anyway) and I'm thinking you must take on board calories in doing that?

Was just alarmed at the fact I seem to have gained a few pounds since starting to use a new brand (which shall remain nameless) that is sweeter in taste than the other brand I was using. Might just be a coincidence but I do wonder.

Not sure. It could be that your intake of food has been de-regulated by your use of artificial sweeteners in snus. Apparently the use of sweeteners can reduce ones ability to burn off sweet tasting calories, as well as de-regulate appetite and stimulate over eating.

Interesting. Someone mentioned something to me along those lines recently about being careful with intake of 'diet' coke et al as the artifical sweetner tells your body to expect calories but when it doesn't get them it's recation is to make you feel hungry in order to get them.

Using snus or any other tobacco product would help you loose weight as it an appetite suppressant.

Depends I guess...I took up snus to quit smoking, and I've definitely gained a few pounds. I think maybe the spike of nicotine from a cigarette is better than the slow burn of snus, as far as appetite suppression is concerned...

STEP AWAY FROM THE TWINKIES!!!...j/k of course

Snus shouldn't make you fat, but when you change something like smoking to snus, or dipping to snus...it puts your body into a state of flux for a time and any little thing could cause minor weight gain.

It's weird. Been snusing for many years but usually stay with a goto snus but had to change brands recently and found I gained a few xtra pounds. Maybe a coincidence

In my view, snus helps me manage my calorie intake and weight because it keeps me from stuffing other things in my mouth that would be worse for my weight control. I think it's better for my weight and overall health if I'm snusing while, say, watching T.V. instead of scarfing down a bag of chips, at the movies instead of munching popcorn and Junior Mints, or at my desk instead of sucking on a piece of candy or sipping on a Dr. Pepper. I tend to crave some kind of flavor in my mouth during most of my waking hours, especially if I'm doing something sedentary, and snus is a better alternative than most of the food options that would satisfy me.

I've gained 35 lbs since quitting smoking and starting to snus... I still love it though.

I'd be hesitant to blame it on the snus directly, but I like the explanation above regarding sweet tastes, and calorie intake. That makes sense to me, and maybe you're eating more, and not realizing it. How old are you pris? After I turned 28 I started gaining weight. It could be combination of factors for you that all happened to come together at one time. Eating a bit more, and not burning it off as quickly. So weight gain happens without seeing an explicit cause.

Quit smoking and started snusing 6 weeks ago and haven't gained a pound. I agree with Langdell: it really helps having snus in my mouth because I won't eat with one in and I'm not taking it out until it's done

I don't know I gain and lose weight, I grew up eating mcdonalds 8 times a week at one point, and just two years ago I ate chipotle like 4-5 times a week. I think snus probably has a small weight loss effect. I remember when I dipped half a can a day and worked as a bag boy I lost like 10 pounds even though I ate like crap.

At 30 I have to work hard to keep the fat off

                          ...well not to add anymore.

Laziness and diet get me everytime...

I have recently switched up brands and found that I have lost some weight since switching.

Snus keeps me from sticking food in my pie hole.

                          Glad I could help.....

                          ......unless I didn't.

                          Then I'm sorry.

I doubt the snus is directly resposible for your weight gain but most likely quitting cigarettes. Many people seem to crave other things when they are not smoking and food is generally the first thing they jump to as it is cheap, freely available and makes you feel good (for a little while) and it's close to impossible to tell yourself you're addicted to food.

There would, I believe, be next to nothing in terms of calories inside a snus portion compared to your daily intake of food source. I suggest take a look at what you are eating and maybe start exercising more (no offence :P) because it's probably something else in your life that changed and it's just a coincidence that you changed snus.
