Here at least they are obliged to send you a letter explaining what has happened, the reasons behind confiscation, et cetera. I never had a package confiscated so I don't know how this works in practice but they cannot just take something from you and throw that away, there is always some dialog involved between you and ****** customs.

but I can BET in Romania no one from the customs knows what snus even looks like........ let alone making the difference between snus and chew or dip.... LMAO

i have solution for the limit of snus you can bring back .. stock up on pringles cans take out enuff pringles that a roll of snus will fit down in... top with remaining pringles .. bobs yer uncle. :P could use empty clean butter tubs for the loose

in Latvia they would call in an expert to establish what it is, moist pipe tobacco like you say or something else. the way you are handled by the customs largely depends on the person your dealing with, there are a few really nice folks around and plenty of beaurocrats who never thow what they are doing but always like to complicate somebody else's life.

The problem is not with the countries receiving the snus, it's with Sweden reinterpreting the legislation in light of the Finalnd business.

We should keep our heads down, buy from whoever is willing to sell it to us, and not poke any wasps nests.

Yes and, if snus was banned (or illegal) they would not even allow you to pay a duty on it, they would confiscate the package and... leave the stuff for themselves.

And its not illegal at all, its forbidden to buy. They won't come arrest you if you have a package sent to the EU. However, they might confiscate it.

I dont see how that can be as I have had 3 orders after jan from America with SNUS written on the Customs Label one package I had to pay duty on.

I think everyone selling snus from anywhere in the world should write "oral tobacco" INSTEAD of snus... (all snus manufacturers should write ORAL TOBACCO)

because that's what it is ... ORAL TOBACCO.....

and if anyone complains...... tell them it's american dip tobacco......

now they would probably try to ban dip as well, that's when I will be moving to US !

This "customs-ban" has already been discussed in German snus-forums. Some forum-members had shipments seized since around October 2010.

Obviously there have been changes made recently to the tobacco laws, EU-wide, but only regarding the advertising of tobacco products. Some ill-informed customs-officers now probably have seen the tobacco-law for the first time, including the old, unchanged snus-article and misinterpreted it as an import-ban on snus. I also had to drive to the customs office once in December, but got the package handed out with no problems.

I think that the actual ban is first and foremost a measure of precaution initiated by SM and the webshops. Nonetheless, something else is going on for sure. The coke-snuffers in Brussels probably want to stop snus before it gets too big and really threatens the cigarette-tax-revenues.

I hate to speculate and wish that someone from Swedish Match finds time finally to comment on the situation.
