I've been ordering snus for nearly a year, and every time it gets more expensive.
I think it's kinda funny that I think a lot of us are ex-smokers (or working on it) and are bitching about the snus price raises, but most of us did the same with the smokes... Bitched, but still bought and caved in.

I mean honestly, yeah it's more expensive than it was, but it's still not insane. It just pays to make bigger orders (which it pretty much always has.) My orders are more spread out, but I still order a lot at once to get the price per can down... I usually fill my cart til the price hits about $3.70/can.

Yeah it sucks, but it's still cheaper than the smokes. If it was like it is today when I started, I most likely wouldn't have ordered. But then, the idea of ordering ten cans seemed ludicrous. Now, if I'm not gonna order 4 rolls, whats the point? Bulk pays off.

You have a point about snus still being cheaper than smokes but the price increases really take the fun out of it and the addiction becomes more of a pain in the ass just like cigarettes were.

        I get it...
I'm not happy about it either, but I'm still playing the lesser-of-evils game.

Dunno what it's like in the US, but in the UK at least the price rises with cigarettes were driven by the government increasing taxes, and it was only an annual thing.

At the moment, it seems like snus goes up on a weekly basis.

            vs

            % increase snus price

If this shipping wasn't so high it would be as bad. But 30+ $$ to get stuff shipped is ridiculous.

Actually, check out http://www.premiumsnus.com/ - I have never ordered from them but saw them mentioned here before. I just checked them for Granit los and I am guessing they have the best prices and lowest shipping right now.

umm. i found this on that premiumsnus.com website

                  "Shipping company

All orders are shipped and administrated by the Swedish company MaKe WeBo."

not that theres anything wrong with that.

                  just sayin

I've been wrong lots of times.  Lots of times I've thought I was wrong only to find out that I was right in the beginning.

If that's a Make WeBo site increases are coming there too. But 27 bucks for a roll of Grov Black is mad cheap.

We don't have a competitive free market system in the snus world. We basically have two companies doing almost all snus distribution. Northerner and Make WeBo. When government restrictions and regulations necessitate the building of a USA warehouse, it imposes a lot of costs that have to be ultimately paid for by the snus consumer forcing Northerner to raise their prices. So when Northerner is forced to raise prices it allows Buysnus to raise prices to make up for the loss of business they experienced when sales dropped due to the imposition of UPS shipping to the states.
P.S. and isn't it true that the governments are the cause of our currencies being in the toilet in the first place?
I agree with you on both points. The big issue is the lack of a free market system in the snus world. You mention Government restriction and regulations as the cause; I would add government greed, vote pandering, and blind ideological zealotry by government bureaucrats to your list.

It is not necessary to have a physical warehouse in the US to sell retail to American snus users...at least not yet. Northerner's interest in pursuing US wholesale distribution and the ability to sell American snuff products in the EU were the drivers there. Since they still operate the US warehouse, I would guess they are making sufficient money from both to at least break even.

Because of all the government stupidity, once again consumers lose. Northerner is restricted as to what products they can sell in the US retail. UPS shipping within the US is cheaper than UPS from Sweden to the consumer, without question. But Northerner has to pay to ship product from their Swedish warehouse to their US warehouse which reflects in their pricing so either way, the consumer is screwed. Ironically, the US Post Office, which is a quasi government agency but is not tax-payer dollar supported, has and is losing money and running at a huge deficit. Most of this is because of email replacing first class mail. Why Congress would then forbid the transportation of any tobacco products (except cigars) by the Postal Service is just another example of their stupidity. The way PACT is written, UPS pretty much has a monopoly on tobacco shipments within, into, and out of the United States. Their rates reflect this.

Banning tobacco shipments via APO and FPO address is another example of government social engineering using the military as a captive test-tube.

As to the EU, from what I'm hearing, the current EU snus ban is not going to be lifted. If it is extended to prohibit shipment of snus between EU counties, then EU snus users will be pounded with higher shipping costs on top of all the stupid taxes. I suspect MaKe WeBo would respond by opening a US warehouse allowing them to sell into the EU but again. Northerner already has a US warehouse, but for both companies the shipping and customs rates from US to EU will be much higher than inter-EU shipments.

Currency manipulation by individual countries, the IMF, the World Bank, and others to suit their personal agendas, often against logic, is indeed responsible and has always been responsible for currency spikes both ways. In the case of tobacco users in general and snus users in particular, no one wins and the consumer always loses. If we all loved nicotine gum, our lives would be much easier...and virtually worthless.

More likely, we will all just keep paying more until prices create a huge, untaxed black market. Then the governments will lose tax money and instead have to increase spending to stop the black markets. Black market products will have no quality standards so reduced harm won't necessarily mean anything. Look at Ireland today with cigarettes, just to name one. It's all just insanity.

can somebody please tell me why a roll of Kronan white is almost three dollers more expencive than Grov white and Ettan white at northener usa? What ever happened to "value brand." At thease prices they might as well put a friggin used portion tray.

I hope that's a reputable site, because everything there is a fair deal cheaper than any other website -- snus AND shipping! Two rolls of "premium" snus for $60 shipped... that's around $25 less than I've been paying since PACT.
