Hi folks..i'm Suthrnbuckhunter..peeps call me Bucky..lol ..easier to type i guess..so i'm new to snus..started out with camel frost and it was ok but a little sweet..ive treid several and settled on the Granit.portion..so i ordered ten cans..now here is the problem i'm having..I picked the Granit because the taste was not to overbearing..mild and very pleasant..but when i got the ten cans in the mail i was very disappointed...what i tried was not this salty..OMG ..it taste like it is pure salt..i swear the can i tried was not like this at all..so my ?? is ...is it common for snus to be inconsistant from one batch to the next...this batch is totally unuseable..shame too as I really enjoyed the can I got along with all the others i bought..Please advice as i am committed to using snus..I also treid the P morris 1847 white portion..tasted simular the Granit with a bit stronger start..I just ordered more of the 1847 white portion, and i'm hoping it was not a mistake..The overbearing taste of salt is unacceptable to me..please tell me that this is not a common problem..thanks for your feedback.

How long have you been using snus? When I 1st started, they were all so salty, I didn't stick with it, but came around again. If you are rather new, then I would try and use them, and in time, that high salt taste should fade as your body gets used to it.
As far as some batches being more salty than others, I don't know, I never experienced it. If you have cans you don't want, use our exchange thread rather than tossing them, or better yet, keep them in your freezer and try one again later.
Welcome to the forum.

Suthrnbuckhunter, first, welcome to Snus.

You are trying to do something that is really almost impossible. Find a snus you like early. Stop. Give up. You are way to new for that. Your tastes will bounce all over the map for a long, long while.
For now. And I would argue for at least a year, if not more. Stop buying rolls of ANYTHING. At most, for now, never buy more than 3 or 4 cans of anything, no matter how much you swear it is your long lost greatest love. Your tastes WILL change. And change almost daily sometimes.
First year is about experimentation, trying everything at east 2 -3 times. Next year, worry about a favorite.
FWIW, I once thought I loved Granit after 1st can, bought 4 more, and sudden;y hated it. And that was after I had used for 2.5 years. Snus tastes just really funny animal to peg.

Welcome to SnusOn Suthrnbuckhunter!
Sage knows what he is talking about. Your tastes will range all over the place for a while yet. I have been snusing for 5 months, and I am still trying EVERY snus at least twice before I even start to settle on just a few favorites. And snus will be salty to your taste for a week or two, until you get used to it...then you won't hardly notice it. Keep experimenting with all different cans of snus before you decide on favorites.

Your taste will change and refine
So stick that roll in the freezer (it will keep) and try a variety. A good place to start is one of the sampler boxes that many of the online shops offer. Regardless sample what is out there.
Another thing is donโt necessarily look for your one brand. Snus is different from dip or cigarettes in that most people do not settle on just one brand (that is, most non-Swedes donโt settle on one brand). I think that the majority of the people here on the forum have a regular rotation of several different brands that they use. They have narrowed it down to 5 or 6 brands they buy regularly (kind of like a wine lover doesnโt drink one and only one type of wine but definitely has his favorites). Again the key is to try and retry what is out there. If you donโt like one brand put it in the freezer and revisit it in a few months. Chances are your taste will have changed
Now about the salt: at first some people really notice it but in about 2 weeks you wont even know it is there. I canโt tell you how many newbies we have on the forum who started off saying the exact same thing as you and then in a couple of weeks couldnโt even remember what all the fuss was about.
Variety and patience are the key.
Oh and Welcome to the forum!!!
keep us posted.

Just a follow-up. I did find a favorite finally. Took about 2 1/2 years using before Retro emerged as one snus I could use most all the time. But even then, I still used others occasionally.
Retro was taken from me about 6 months ago. I tried for months to find a replacement and finally realized it just wouldn't happen. Now, I use a structured rotation. About 40% of my snus is General White. Most times, it is either perfect or good enough. But I can't use it alone all day. I use Kronan now to change up when General starts to turn on me a bit. I also use a few Grov White each day just to vary everything, and use Nck and Johnny Black as my sterk.
So not realy a favorite, but a set rotation of several I use. I order every other month. Know I need a roll of General, about 6 cans of Kronan, 3 of Grov white, and 4-5 cans of Nick and Johnny Black. So yeah, I am pretty set in my ways, rarely order anything outside of those 4 these days. But still, no way I could narrow it further to one. Retro was unique that way, I doubt I will ever experience that again.

Bucky I have noticed significant variation in salt content between portions of the same can, and between cans of the same snus. Snus is not a pharmaceutical....hell, it's not even a Twinkie. There can be definite variation among portions. But taste also plays a big roll, as something can taste totally different at different times of the day, etc. If salt is a big issue, please try the Ettan. Ettan has one of the lowest salt contents of the many brands available. It also has a flavor of tobacco and chocolate, but less bergamot flavor than the Granit.

LOL Bucky. We are kinda famous for being a super friendly, helpful bunch.
Yes, jut keep using. Snus is so different than dip, jut be a bit patient at first.
Since you are a former dip user, just wanted to make sure you saw the thread dedicated to folk making the switch from dip to snus??

I second (or third, or whatever) the suggestion that you read the dippers guide. It is a great source of information, dipper or otherwise.
As far as taste goes, I would say you should stash the granit and come back to it. I think that the taste of snus has a tendency to be affected by exterior factors more than any other tobacco product I have run across. The things that you have eaten, the amount of water you have drank et cetera will all have some kind of impact on the way the snus feels/tastes. Some snuses are more consistent than others. On top of that, you have to use snus for awhile for your mouth to get used to it and develop a consistent response. I remember when I first started using (portions) I was spitting every other one out in ten minutes because the drip would just be overwhelming. It just takes a bit of time, and requires a bit of patience, but it should also be a fun experience, as you can only try something for the first time once. Enjoy.

Variety is actually one of the best things about snus!
