    New to snus

    Hi everyone,

I quit smoking about 3 months ago and switched to e cigs. I do not like how I feel after 3 months of using them and am trying to switch to snus. Yesterday I found some general snus at a local cigar shop and liked it alot though it is really strong. I ordered some mini portions from northerner and am going to wait till they arrive to officially make a switch. I just have some concerns about quality of the snus I am getting either locally or online. Is the general snus sold here actual Swedish snus, as in are the shops here just distributors or do they manufacture it locally? Just curious because I got the general classic blend and nordic mint and read online that they are made for the American market, whatever that means? I heard Swedish snus is the safest type of smokeless tobacco so that is what I'm looking for. Also I looked at the ingredients list and saw PG (propelyne glycol) which is the main ingredient in eliquid and I did not react well to it when vaping, and was wondering if there is Swedish snus with no PG and no artificial flavorings?
I would appreciate any feedback, thanks in advance!

    Hi Welcome to Snuson

All General snus is made in Sweden then shipped over to the states, it is real sweish snus so you don't need to worry. The cans have a little 3 star pattern on the side which confirms its real swedish snus made my swedish match.

Also the ingreedients are listed on the can, there are only food grade items in there, along with water and salt, it has the lowest TSNA levels of any smokeless tobacco (so I am told) so in terms of using tobacco its about as safe as you can get. It is regulated as a food product in sweden so has to meet very strict standards so you don;t need to worry about nasties getting into it.

Normal portions can feel strong at first when you switch from smoking, I found that too, minis are good as they have less nic in them, but you will find you will work up to the regular sized ones, then possibly onto sterks and extra sterks if the mood takes you.

Enjoy the site, grats on quitting smoking and enjoy the snus

      Thanks for the welcome
Non of the general cans I got have the 3 stars on them, but they do say distributed by Swedish Match NA so it should be okay. Also is there any way I can get cans directly from Sweden without those big warning labels on them? It's sort of a buzz kill each time I open it lol.

Never had a can from the states so con't know on that point but they are all still made in Sweden so don't worry about it.

They have to put those labels on them, I think if you buy it from snus central they put them on the outside of the roll it comes packed in rather than on the can as its shipped from Sweden, but being in the UK we just get them as they come in Sweden. Snus2 I think still ship to the US (thats a shop in Sweden) so will prob not have the big warnings on.

The can is irrelevant though as its whats inside thats good

          Welcome To SnusOn King Burger!

Congrats on quitting smoking.... If you want snus without all those damn warning labels on them shop at SnusCentral or BuySnus, They just put the warning on a loose piece of paper wraped around the cans not all over them, They ship direct from Sweden... Since Northerner is here in the Us they are mandated by the FDA to put those damn stickers all over the cans.... SnusCentral has a 10% off for 1st time customers and has the fastest shipping, freshest snus and best selection as well as the best customer service you will find anywhere... You can even save the 10% off for 1st time customer and use it later and then use the current special they have of 10% off your entire order until July 31st...

Damn should have ordered from there first. But if they ship direct from Sweden then they probably take a while to get here. Do you know how much their shipping is? Northerner charged me $13.56 shipping and $8.34 tobacco tax, and my order was only $25.93! I know I should make bigger purchases but I just wanted to try the mini portions since they don't have them at the shop here, and next time I'll make a larger order, otherwise if I end up using regular or stronger portions I'll just buy them locally.

As to the question about PG.

They very well may add a bit of PG to snus as it helps to retain moisture, but there is a big difference between taking it orally over inhaling it in the form of vapor. Plus the amount used is far less then with an e-cig. One of the big unknowns with vaping is what are the long term effect of inhaling PG, along with inhaling many flavorings never intended to by vaporized and inhaled. There are a number of people having problems with long term inhalation as PG is a known irritant. PG also has the ability to dry out the lungs. That can't be a good thing to be doing long term.

If anyone is going to use an e-cig I would suggest not inhaling. Use it like a pipe or cigar to avoid any issues.

                    Thanks for all the welcomes..

Soo.. can someone give me some advice on where is the "safest" spot to place my snus in my mouth to avoid gum recession. See I have a bad habit since I was a kid of brushing hard and fast so I noticed in some places in the front of my mouth the gum is receding but I am changing my brushing habits so It should recover but I don't want snus to interrupt that healing.

Doesn't matter where you put it, top or bottom but its meant to go ont he top, I put mine in the top left, my dentist says there are no problems so its staying there.

                          Welcome to the forum.
Don't be worried about ordering from Snuscentral in Sweden.
It is actually faster than ordering from the states.
The shipping is more expensive but there is no tax so depending on what state you live in it may be cheaper to order from Sweden.
Northerner in the states does still have free shipping when ordering over 4lbs so they are both viable options and I order from both depending on what is discounted.

You may be surprised with shipping times from Sweden. Since BuySnus(and SnusCentral, which drop ships via BuySnus) can only use UPS now due to PACT, the order has tracking. Even before PACT, I got an order from BuySnus once that was here from Sweden in 48 HOURS via Swedish Post. 5 days or so appears to be the norm though.

Having said that, importing from Sweden using UPS may incur tax and duty----I haven't heard of it actually happening, but it is a possibility. Also, BuySnus won't collect excise tax from your State, but since you're using UPS, it is a registered transaction and may come up later. Also, since it comes through U.S. Customs, there is the risk of it getting 'lost'. It's been some time since I heard of a case of this happening, but it happened with some frequency in the past, and so it is something to bear in mind.

Since the PACT Act, I have used Northerner via their warehouse in Pennsylvania, and I haven't personally ever had a problem. The snus has always been reasonably fresh, and I don't have to worry about potential tax and/or customs issues.

Regardless of which supplier(s) you choose, you'll find that larger and less frequent orders are generally more cost effective, should you decide to use snus regularly.

The above statement is not completely accurate,

                              This is from Buysnus website:

                              To our US-based customers:

Lately there’s been a lot of talk regarding the new US laws under the name of PACT Act. We are complying with the laws as far as possible today. During the next months there might be changes. We’ll keep you informed of this and for the moment it’s safe to order from BuySnus!

Some of the changes that we’ve done are:
                              • Age verification on our site (If you’re having problems with verifying your account, please send us an e-mail and we’ll help you.)
                              • All orders are packed in sealed plastic bags with the mandatory health warning.
                              • Adult signature required. This is checked by UPS upon delivery.
•We pay the appropriate duties and government fees since we use UPS DDP (Delivery & Duty Paid). If you as a customer should be contacted by a local authority to pay taxes or fees please contact us. We promise you that we’ll sort this out without any problems for you.

Some of the benefits by ordering from BuySnus are:
                              • Absolutely fresh Swedish snus direct from the manufacturers! With no extra overseas warehouse and with no shipping time between we’ll supply you with the freshest snus possible.
                              • We sell and ship ALL brands from Sweden, including the whole Skruf-range!
                              • Faster deliveries by using UPS from Sweden compared to UPS Ground or other slower services where the snus is placed in warm trucks for days.

To clear up any confusion, since SnusCentral and BuySnus ship from the same warehouse, The above statement applies to SnusCentral as well. Rather than posting it here (it is longer than BuySnus's ), this is the link to their Post-PACT policies for US-based customers.http://www.snuscentral.com/-i-17.html

I have ALWAYS used SnusCentral. I have never had to pay tax or duty nor ever heard of anyone who has.... If that were to even happen their statement " If you as a customer should be contacted by a local authority to pay taxes or fees please contact us. We promise you that we’ll sort this out without any problems for you". Has always been good enough for me.... Prices have always been a hell of a lot cheaper, along with the freshest best before use dates you can get, Any problems you have, they have always cleared it out a LOT better than others have for me. I made one order through Northerner, and they sent me expired snus and snus close to expire left out two cans at one time.. It was retarded. It took almost a month! SnusCentral has NEVER been over 4 days. NEVER. In fact, They are incredible and I cannot even imagine anyone having poor service from SnusCentral. I have made well over 20 shipments from snuscentral, and none have ever had one single problem.
