"Strong" Snus Not Feeling so Strong

    Hi All,

Been a snus user for about eight months, and my "go to" snus is usually General Wintergreen White Portion (8 mg Nicotine/portion).

I was interested in trying a stronger snus (even though I still get a nice hit from the General), and ordered Jakobsson's Mint Strong Portion (14 mg/portion) and Thunder ES Frosted, Strong Portion (12 mg/portion).

The strange thing is, I've been using both the last few days, but not only am I not getting the same nic hit as General, but I'm barely feeling anything at all.

Any similar experiences when stepping up to a stronger snus. I know I'm a relative newbie, but I'm pretty sure I'm using these correctly (stick them under your lip; how hard is that?)

    Thanks for any input.

Lots of people have been saying that about Jakobsson's Mint. I notice that they are stronger than regulars, but not by much. The Thunder Long+ I think is pretty strong for being 12 mg. I just ordered a can of it so I might think differently of it now since it was a pretty long time since I had it.

However, your tolerance raises pretty fast with snus - especially considering the nicotine stays in the blood for such a long time, so it really doesn't decrease by much, except at night.

The moistness of the snus can have a lot to do with it as well. Dry snus packs less of a kick than moist snus.

You should try regular Thunder Frosted Portions, and maybe Odens Extreme Lös. Those packs a hell of a kick IMO.

Good point about the moistness being a possible reason behind the effect. With General, I find the drip is very substantial. These are much drier. Thanks for the insight.

The "Stark-ness" of a snus is the amount of nicotine in the portion. However some starks hit much harder and faster than others and hence they feel stronger. Others feel more like a regular portion but last a lot longer and keep delivering the nic for a long time.

I think the Jakobssons line of starks are in the slow-burn camp, Oden's Extreme are also slow burners but with much more nicotine to start with so they hit fairly hard and then keep on.

The only other thing to watch out for is tolerance. It doesn't take long using starks that you lose the buzz they give you and then regular 8mg portions will do next to nothing for you. Once that happens there's only 3 options - stick with the Starks, ramp it back down to 8mg by only using them for a couple of weeks, or get in to Makla and carry on chasing the dragon :-P

People still snus for the "buzz"? Damn. I stopped getting buzzed about 2 weeks in. Now all i look for is the satisfaction to the nicotine urge, which my Thunder Frost Long+ gives me everytime. I don't even remember what a nic buzz from snus feels like, but thats not what I was ever shooting for anyway.

Yeah - I find Skruf Stark and Odens Extra Starks (the classic ones not the Extreme) are the fastest hitting ones.

I actually think Skruf Stark are one of the weaker sterks I have tried. They do give me satisfaction, but they are not by any means overpowering. Thunder Wintergreen, Odens Extreme Lös and Odens Creamy Wintergreen are the most powerful snuses I have tried.

A "buzz" is something I haven't gotten in a while except with the snus I mentioned above. However, I see a nicotine buzz as something negative. I mean, I do get an euphoric, relaxed feeling when popping in a snus most of the time, but a nicotine buzz for me is nausea, dizziness etc. which is not really pleasant.

I find i get more of a buzz from a snus if i have drank a yerba mate tea... i find a synergy happens... maybe that's why i get a buzz still...

You need to break the 12 - 13mg barrier.

Man, your post really depressed me. The best thing about snus is the buzz. I'll be devastated when I can't feel it.

Thanks to all for your perspectives on strong snus. I didn't like 'em (effect or taste), and I don't want to accelerate my needing a stronger dose for the buzz. So I'm done with the strong stuff, and will keep on keeping on with General Wintergreen. Hopefully, with my relatively small usage schedule (one in the morning, one in the afternoon), I can keep the buzz lasting a long time.
