Breaking: Obama pulling out troops this month

    http://content.usatoday.com/communit...on-iraq-live/1

Live, President Obama announces troop withdrawal from Iraq THIS MONTH.

EDIT: More info surfacing. If you actually read whatit entails, it means only 15,000 of the 65,000 troops there leave this month. The rest are there until the end of 2011.

I'm all for getting our asses out of there. Problem is, I think our defensive stance will have to be more aggressive now than ever. You don't poke a hornet's nest with a stick, try to take out their queen, and then turn your back. IMO, I think we will be involved in battling terroist regimes and religious crusaders from here on out.

The middle eastern countries have been battling each other for centuries and engaged in a holy war. We never had any pieces on the table til now. Although, I think we put our pieces on the table long before this conflict, which is probably what made them set their sights on us resulting in 9/11.

I fear we have become a permanent player. Short of nuking the region flat. Even then, you can kill the crusaders, but do you ever really kill the ideology. Others will come along and pick up the torch.

Well at least that's 15,000 who won't have to worry
about getting their asses shot over there... Now they
can come home and do their ducking here!

Having a son that has served 2 tours over there, I don't really know what to think of this.

Yep. He's been back and out of the Marines now and part time security guard at a local hospital whilst going to school on the GI bill.

                Thanks!

I have similar concerns. I wouldn't be surprised if we saw some major event come about between now and the withdrawal, which will prompt them to then say "Oops, sorry, can't come back now". That may just be being overparanoid though, but it's hard for us to imagine this war will ever end. It's been 9 years for God's sake.

Note also how congress is passing through legislation that would allow for, and partially finance an israeli pre-emptive strike on Iran. The US keep reiterating that a strike against Iran is not off the table by a long shot.

Then I also have to wonder if they are just pulling out our troops from Iraq in anticipation of a re-deployment to Iran. All I know is that Iran is the big leagues, not shooting guys in skirts and sandles like Iraq, it'll be bloody to say the least. And frankly I think they already have a nuclear weapon, they've had enough time. It wouldn't surprise me if this is what we see in our future, a new campaign against Iran.

The public would never support it but when has that ever changed anything.

Luckily there is a large segment of the Iranian population that is already pissed at the current regime in charge.

US has plan to attack Iran. Of course it involves sending in less troops than needed and pissing of the locals who as of right now hate the Iranian government, but hey it's a plan

Additionally, it is noteworthy to mention:

                    A) Obama is actually following Bush's timeline for withdrawal, and is only making good on a promise Bush made in 2008 saying we would leave by the dates Obama is now adhering to. So thank you Mr Bush for your cock-bitch decision to set a withdrawal date in the last 10 minutes of your presidency, and thank you Mr. Obama for not extending those dates.

                    B) That PP has changed my signature to something praising himself. I will now dedicate my lifes work to coming up with a signature that will make him pay.

We only have 65,000 troops? So Iraq is essentially going to be ok, but afghanistan doesn't have an army? Why is afghanistan so hard, don't a lot of the majority ethnic group the Hazara hate the Taliban, aren't there a bunch of northern alliance veterans from a ten year war before we were there?

I don't see how we can even fake the idea of Iraq progressing, and having any sort of freedom or "democracy" when they have banned the Baath party, since that's really their only hope for any future stabilization.

Suspiciously close to the Wikileak's leaks about all that information of fail concerning our progress there, almost as though after 9 years it takes one source to actually make a change. Hypothetically speaking...

But most of the war has consisted of the US army getting their butts owned by homemade weapons and explosives, so to actually "win" they might as well just a nuke because the enemy can literally be anyone at this point.
