I wear a straw panama hat purchesed at Wally World when I'm cutting grass or bush hogging. It is breathable and blocks the sunlight. If that's too casual for your style of camping then you could spend as much as you like on a more up-market version. Just search "panama hat" on Amazon.com..
What kind of hat do you wear?

I have a ton of hats, but to answer Vegan's question: For the summer, I'm a big fan of the Columbia Omni line of hats. They come in men's and woman's colors and styles. Bass Pro carries similar hats labeled as "duck" hats, but they seem to be a thicker material.

I wear a tweed newsboy but mostly in the winter. And I recently lost it. I'll be doing some traveling in very hot climates near the equator in a couple months, and I'm bald, so I hope to get some good suggestions from this thread as well. Hates in the heat don't work too well for me because almost all of my sweating occurs on my head, and because I'm bald, it's quite visible and rather embarrassing. I'm always hot, even when everyone else is cool as a fan. I hate that when riding in cars with other people, cold people ALWAYS win and the window goes up. I ****ing hate that. Give me a breeze or give me death.

THE CAP
(minus the warning)
NOT THE MUG
(altho, if I had one, I'd probably try to wear that too)

I am not much of a hat wearer, but I occasionally wear a cheap white straw Panama in the summer and a crushable felt chocolate brown fedora in winter. Plus the ubiquitous baseball-type caps from time to time. Although I am a Braves fan, my favorite baseball cap is a bright red Nationals cap with white script "W". It is a real beauty.

A panama or other straw hat is your best bet for keeping cool while protecting your head from the sun.
I'm not much of a hat-wearer, either, although I did have a brown suede racing cap I used to wear quite often, many years ago. Recently I bought a cheap white fedora for nights out on the town. The hatband has black peace symbols on a white background.

I have a small collection of hats and the best hat I have for summer is and Akubra Capricorn. It's a polystraw (plastic woven like a straw hat would be woven) with a leather sweat band. It stays cool and keeps the sun out while looking pretty nice. You can see a bunch of photos and discussion on this hat here and I bought mine here http://australiangear.com It's also won't get damaged if it gets wet which is something to take into consideration with straw.
The forum from that link is a great resource if you want to know about all types of hats.
I currently have a collection of
2 wool tweed newsboy caps
1 Akubra Campdraft in bluegrass green
1 Akubra Capricorn polystraw
1 Akubra Federation IV (looks like the Indiana Jones hat) in brown
1 Akubra Banjo Patterson in charcoal grey
1 cheapo sun hat with a huge brim that's good when I don't want to worry about damaging a nice hat.
From my list you can see that I'm a fan of Akubra. From everything I've read they seem to be the best quality new fur-felt hats you can get though vintage hats are supposed to be better. Fur felt really isn't the best for summer and hot weather though...
