ZRM Newswire for June 01, 2010

Since some here have the opinion that I have been doing to much "off topic" posting, I have decided to limit my rants to one thread per week. This thread will contain all of the items that I have been posting individually... so, if you enjoy reading the controversial, bizarre and offbeat... you'll want to check back here throughout the week for updates.

And to my critics... yes, I love you too.

Al Gore Breaks Up With Wife Tipper After 40 Years

    radaronline ^ |
Posted on Tuesday, June 01, 2010 1:20:52 PM
Former Vice President Al Gore has separated from his wife of 40 years Tipper, RadarOnline.com has learned.
The Associated Press got an email from Gore saying the separation was "a mutual and mutually supportive decision that we have made together following a process of long and careful consideration."
62-year-old Al Gore ran for president in 2000 and lost amid controversial election results in Florida which became the subject of an HBO movie called Recount.
Gore, who won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2007, gained international fame and popularity after his film An Inconvenient Truth won an Oscar in best documentary in 2006.
    Hollywood’s Dirtiest Divorces
Tipper was a controversial figure in the early 90s when she voiced strong support in labeling records that she thought may be profane.
The couple’s holdings are massive. Just this April, The Gores bought a $8.8 million ocean view villa in Montecito, California—which is also home to Oprah Winfrey.
They also own a 10,000 square foot mansion in Belle Meade, Tenn.
The couple just celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary on May 19. They have four children—Kareena, Kristin, Sarah and Albert III.

      Poll: Legalization of pot favored

      Orance County Register ^ | 6/1/2010 |
Posted on Tuesday, June 01, 2010 1:18:18 PM

California voters favor the legalization of marijuana for personal use 49 percent to 41 percent, according to a LA Times/USC poll. The measure will appear on the November ballot.
However, one-third of backers say they favor it only “somewhat.”
A poll last month by the Public Policy Institute of California found the measure in a statistical dead heat, 49 percent to 48 percent.

        Obama’s Three Fatal Flaws

        Flopping Aces ^ | 06-01-10 |
Posted on Tuesday, June 01, 2010 1:31:56 PM

Incompetence, arrogance and an aversion to criticism!
Are we witnessing the implosion of the Obama presidency? It seems that events on several fronts are spiraling beyond Obama's ability to deal with them. Whether it's the Sestak affair, the oil spill or Obama's failure to live up to his campaign promises by ending the war in Iraq in 16 months or closing Gitmo, Obama seems in over his head.
It wasn't so long ago that Obama's fine words about his new vision for America captivated a nation weary of war and partisan strife. Look back at the remarks of then candidate Obama as he launched the final leg of his Iowa caucus campaign; a victory that paved the way for him to enter the White House. The speech, known as "Our Moment Is Now" is worth reading in it's entirety as it captures the failed promise of Obama. A few excerpts are below:
OBAMA: We cannot wait for good jobs, and living wages, and pensions we can count on. We cannot wait to halt global warming, and we cannot wait to end this war in Iraq. I chose to run because I believed that the size of these challenges had outgrown the capacity of our broken and divided politics to solve them; because I believed that Americans of every political stripe were hungry for a new kind of politics, a politics that focused not just on how to win but why we should, a politics that focused on those values and ideals that we held in common as Americans; a politics that favored common sense over ideology, straight talk over spin. ... The real gamble in this election is playing the same Washington game with the same Washington players and expecting a different result. ... But you can't at once argue that you're the master of a broken system in Washington and offer yourself as the person to change it. You can't fall in line behind the conventional thinking on issues as profound as war and offer yourself as the leader who is best prepared to chart a new and better course for America. It's change that won't just come from more anger at Washington or turning up the heat on Republicans. There's no shortage of anger and bluster and bitter partisanship out there. We don't need more heat. We need more light. I've learned in my life that you can stand firm in your principles while still reaching out to those who might not always agree with you. And although the Republican operatives in Washington might not be interested in hearing what we have to say, I think Republican and independent voters outside of Washington are. That's the once-in-a-generation opportunity we have in this election.
For the first time in a long time, we have the chance to build a new majority of not just Democrats, but Independents and Republicans who've lost faith in their Washington leaders but want to believe again - who desperately want something new.
The speech was a reaction to the charge by the Hillary campaign that Obama lacked the experience to lead. But as most of us have learned by now, rhetoric is no substitute for leadership and experience. After reading the speech above, don't you think voters were right to expect something better from Obama. Yet, let's look at a few specifics and see what we got:http://www.floppingaces.net/2010/06/...e-fatal-flaws/

First i'd like to say that it's a great idea to post them all in one thread, then I don't have to search around lol. I think they are going to pass the legilization measure, and I hope they do even though I don't smoke. I'd like to see us be the first state to do it, tourism will raise that's for sure. All the polls all this last year have shown that people support it and I think it'll pass the vote.

In a post at Andrew Breitbart's BigGovernment.com, O'Keefe purports to document fraud at the US Census department, showing how supervisors encouraged employees to cut corners and falsify their timestamps. Expect plenty of fun controversy. Here's his post, and below is his basic video.

PHOENIX -- Arizona Sen. John McCain says the White House needs to slow down in its push to do away with the ban on gays serving openly in the military.
The House voted last week to repeal the "don't ask, don't tell" policy and the bill is now headed to the Senate.
"I want the people to know that we needed a complete study as to the effect on the impact of our battle effectiveness and morale before we repealed it," McCain told News/Talk 92.3 KTAR. "They're ramming it through without the input even of the chiefs of our services."

Students at La Quinta High School, in So Cal’s Coachella Valley have been amusing themselves playing a game called “Beat the Jew”. In the “game”, a runner is called a “Jew” and chased by groups of people in cars called “Nazis”.
"'The objective for the Jew is to run down Hwy. 111 to a specified checkpoint before the Nazis can catch up to him, tackle him down and capture him,’ according to a Facebook page that was taken down on Friday."
Desert Sands Unified School District Superintendent Sharon McGehee displayed the twisted view of the First Amendment endemic to liberals:
"'(It’s) their freedom of speech; there’s not much we can do except be disappointed,’ Desert Sands Unified School District Superintendent Sharon McGehee said, adding that many students apologized." La Quinta, incredibly, is known as one of the better schools in the Valley:
"‘We only have three weeks until there’s not much you can do about it,’ said the 18-year-old La Quinta High student who alerted officials to the game and Facebook page promoting it. She has asked to remain anonymous and is staying home from school out of fear of retribution."
"‘Some of these kids that have joined the group, they’re like the cream of the crop of my class,’ she said. ‘They’re going to be the leaders of our future and they feel this way?’"

                            The End of Empathy

A University of Michigan Study of nearly 14,000 college students has found that they have less empathy than college students did during the 1980s or 1990s. In fact, today’s college students scored about 40 percent lower in empathy than their counterparts did 20 or 30 years ago.
Empathy is one of the most valuable psychological resources we have. It allows us to resonate with and respond to the suffering of others. It also allows us to care deeply about the fates of those we love, including our spouses and children. When empathy is destroyed, people are free (in a terrible way) not only to ignore the needs of others, but to perpetrate emotional or physical violence upon them.

Scientists discover explanation for why the Universe exists

                              Yahoo News ^ | 05/20/2010 | Michael Bolen
Posted on Tuesday, June 01, 2010 3:39:32 PM
Physicists have long wondered why the universe exists when matter and anti-matter particles obliterate each other on contact.
But new data from a particle accelerator in the United States suggests a reason.
The tests showed that when anti-protons and protons collide, the resulting new particles show a one per cent skew toward matter over anti-matter. Over a long period of time, this characteristic of the universe could explain why matter has come to dominate over anti-matter.
"Many of us felt goose bumps when we saw the result," said Stefan Soldner-Rembold, a physicist at the University of Manchester in the United Kingdom.
"We knew we were seeing something beyond what we have seen before and beyond what current theories can explain."
Every basic particle of matter has a matching anti-particle. The anti-particle has the same mass as the standard particle, but an opposite electric charge. Anti-matter is not to be confused with dark matter.
While anti-matter has been demonstrated in numerous experiments, dark matter remains a hypothesis used to help explain the effects of mass which scientists cannot currently see.
The dark matter hypothesis helps to explain why the universe hasn't expanded into a cold and relatively motionless void. The extra mass, and resulting gravity, is the reason galaxies form into clumps rather than flying apart.
Particle accelerators, such as the Tevatron collider at the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory in Illinois, which conducted the tests, and the Large Hadron Collider at CERN on the Swiss-French border, use electric fields to smash particles into each other at incredibly high speeds.
