Workers asked to return bonuses after 16 years

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. (AP) -- About 180 county employees in suburban Atlanta are being asked to return thousands of dollars the county says they were overpaid 16 years ago.
Gwinnett County's chief financial officer, Aaron Bovos, calls it a project to "clean up receivables and to eliminate outstanding obligations."
The county is seeking to collect more than $39,000 from employees who received bonuses in their paychecks in 1994. Authorities blamed the overpayments on a payroll anomaly when the county adjusted employees' payroll cycles.
Employees can apply the money to vacation leave or make a cash payment.

    wtf?
Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to hide the bodies of the people I killed because they were annoying......

I've been wrong lots of times.  Lots of times I've thought I was wrong only to find out that I was right in the beginning.

Bulls***. I'd tell them where they could put that bonus check. I'd keep it. Give it to me, it's mine. I don't care if it's a mistake, it's YOUR mistake, not mine.

              Hmmm...

Free loan for 16 years. The effects of 16 years of inflation...

              Not a bad deal really...

well....i say...if they knew they got more in their bonus that they were supposed to get...then yes they should return it.....mistakes happen...it just finally saw the light of day.

if noone told the employees how much the bonus was....in writing....they by all means they should keep it.

A whole $39,000 eh? Why the hell are they bringing it up after 16 years? $39,000 is nothing. The state should just deal with it at this point. Don't statute of limitations apply here?

There is no way in hell they can possibly have grounds to enfoce payment, since it was not the employees who were at fault. I'd tell them to go eat a di*k.

Though the way this country is, all the ones who don't return the money will more than likely be out of a job, for any reason at all that "the man" can come up with . . .

After so long, I don't see how they could get it back.
