    3D TV

What are your thoughts on this 3D TV stuff?

My wife has been on me to get a new TV for years. She want's a huge HDTV but the problem is our old, clunky 36" tube teevee works just fine. I do enjoy watching sports on my brother's huge mungalnga TV but I was thinking about holding out for another year to get one of these 3D things.

So far it appears as if you can only watch these if you're wearing the glasses. With little kids that could be problematic as one could imagine. There probably would be a setting on it to watch normal 2D tv though. All this is assuming that 3D programming is eventually mainstream.

Yah they sold out of all the 3d TV's I was just reading. 3D TV's are first gen and therefore you shouldn't buy them imo. There isn't enough content in 3d yet anyways, and there will likely be improvements over the next year or so. Plus they'r probably overpriced since it's a cool new technology.

I don't see them ever getting around having to wear glasses though.

One of the demos i saw for a '3D ready' tv had decent effects without the glasses, but i'm assuming as of now they'd be needed for the full effect.

I don't see many people going for it, at least for quite a while to be honest though. It wasn't too long ago when HD really took off and one format was settled on. The people that switched over to HD are still working on building up their bluray library. DVDs aren't even gone yet, we don't need this many formats for television. I for one am more than happy with 'regular' HD.

I still own VHS tapes, and a real life VHS/VCR combo circa 1980. Put that in your 3d pipe and smoke it

I agree, too many formats competing at once means that someone will have to lose. I think Blue ray has already gotten a head start, I wouldn't expect a lot of 3d for a while now.

Did you mean to put betamax in there? (vhs/vcr combo) I still have a betamax and vcr myself lol. In fact, i own HD-DVD player and have yet to get a bluray. They do need to slow down with the formats though.

When they start selling blue ray's in the 10$ bin, I will start buying them.

I have a nice 1080p HD tv but I have yet to watch a blue ray on it yet. Just seems to expensive and frankly DVD's are still fine for me. Not worth an extra 20 bucks to see people's pores.

Within ten years, Bluray and DVDs will be extinct. Streaming video, on-demand, and downloadable content are the future. I haven't purchased a DVD or Bluray disc in over a year. I use the Netflix streaming service or on-demand cable to watch films.

Unfortunately, i share your view point. I do realize media is heading towards complete digitization, but i enjoy and prefer a physical medium. I have pretty much accepted it with music (still collect vinyl and certain CDs though) so who knows, i might come to terms with it.

Just smoke pot if you want what's on TV to seem more interesting.

No in all seriousness has anyone ever watched tv while on shrooms? It actually is completely 3d, at least in my experience. I think it has to do with how the poison messes up your depth perception.

But whoever said it here was right, digital is the future, physical medium will go out of style or be replaced by flash drives lol.

Once flash drives only cost a penny, you'll start seeing them being sold individually with read only movies on them.
