    AK47 or AR15

    This should spark some discussion...

So I am looking to get an AR15 or an AK47. I am wanting suggestions and opinions. Mostly I just want something reliable and decently priced. Price isn't that big of an issue. Any opinions?

Depends what you want to use it for and what the laws are where you live. I'm assuming we are talking about the semi-auto version of both.

It depends. The Ak is going to be more "reliable", as in you could bury it in the sand and then dig it out and use it, but the AR-15 is very reliable to, as long as your not filling the chamber with nothing weird and you keep it oiled with some CLR and keep the dust cover closed.

The main difference is going to be the type of round it shoots. The AR is going to be a little more accurate at medium range but fires the 5.56, so the bullets will be cheaper and theyll bounce around in whatever you shoot it at.

The AK is gonna fire 7.62's which are larger and a little more expensive.

Really it depends on preference, as I imagine your not going to war with one. I would choose the AR because it's got more room for rail attachments and it's what i'm used to shooting with, but the AK is good if your trying to bury it in your backyard while you await the zombie apocalypse.

it would be smarter to keep it in a wall compartment or close by the stairs if you have any, remember get up the stairs and then demolish them, zombies cant climb.

I have an AR, but I wish I would have gotten a .308. One of these days I might sell it and get either an FAL (DSA) or an M1a.

If money's no object, check these out:

If you're looking to compete (uspsa 3-gun), then get the AR, ammo's cheaper and you'll go through a lot of it.

Actually, 7.62x39 is a quite bit cheaper and easier to find than 5.56 (m193).

If you have the money, get a real rifle like the HK 417. A lot better accuracy for a longer range than either one of the others could even hope to get to. Breaks down just like an AR, and has piston blow back to keep the bolt & group clean. Can't beat'em.

ar15 tons of aftermarket support. change the upper receiver and bolt very easy swap. and you can go from a 22 to a 50bmg! might as well get both as ak clones are still pretty resonable.

Neither, as those are just weapons of war and have no reasonable place in any citizens collection!............

..........This is what I have to deal with, as I live in the Great Peoples Republik of Komunist Kalifornia. Bastards. The only way I can get an AR is if its "California Approved" which means no cool attachments, low ammo capabilities, non-detachable mag, no pistol grips, and a bunch of other Bullsh*t regulations. I have many guns, but would really love an AR-15. I love California as in the mountains and beaches, and sunshine, but abolutely DESPISE the government here! The only reason I miss living in Arizona, and Las Vegas is the more sane gun regulations. Sh*t, in Arizona you can go into a freaking pawn shop and walk out with a freaking Tec 9, the same day!

IMO, definitely AR-15. Ammo is easy to find and cheap, plus all the cool accessories you can swap around

Really? I did not know that. I only know about cost in North Carolina which I swore was more expensive than the 5.56 but I may be wrong. Either way, the ammo only matters if your killing people with it, so I would still go with the AR in any case.

I feel exactly the same way. And I live in Santa Cruz where there is like 1 guy with a CCW permit lol. I thought about buying an AR-15 here but the rules are to nazi. I have a bunch of 30 round mags, pistol grips, bipod grips etc that I brought home with me from the army but if I use them here I somehow become a felon so it's not worth it.
