i hate talking on the phone, so very much 10% or less is my usage as well..

Google Maps with Turn by Turn directions is THE best app i've ever seen on a smartphone tho, the iPhone version is almost as good, but doesn't recover as well from missed turns and such.

I wish I spent 10% of my phone time was actually talking, but I do in the neighborhood of 4000 minutes. Hell, I talk almost as much and my daughter texts.

About your quote above, I was unaware of a Google version of their turn by turn. Did I miss something?

google maps on the android has turn by turn with voice synthesis... and it's a free app..

it works with the GPS, so last week while i was in houston, i just hit the address selected "navigate" and followed the verbal directions to the places i needed to go. it's integrated into the voice search as well, so you can call out "Hotel Renaissance" instead of typing and away it goes.

Correct, it is bad ass. From your post though it sounded as though there was a version for the iPhone. I was pretty sure there wasn't, but who knows!

I think I remember Google stating that they could easily make it for the iPhone if Apple wanted it but I think that was still during the time that Apple wasn't allowing turn by turn. Could be confusing one of the other Google apps though.

I have an iphone 3GS and I used to hate on them. Then I messed around with a friends iphone and I just realized how bad ass they are and I gave up my blackberry that I really loved for the iphone. I am however stuck with ATT, because where I live and work its the only service that actually gets a signal. My iphone is jailbroken and that helps with the apple restrictions. As for voice guided turn by turn GPS, the iphone has a few different apps for that. The best one by far is the navigon one though. It has advanced lane guidance, text to speech and speed limits for every road I have ever gone down. It recalculates the route really fast and choses good routes and allows you to use ipod controls while routing so you can listen to your music while driving. It's better than my stand alone TomTom. That new google phone looks sweet though.

                  SO MUCH THIS!

both the iphone and the google maps are sooo much better than any of the standalone GPS systems!

the google maps app will look up traffic information (if in your area) and allow you to reroute around heavy traffic.

                                Hrmm......

Well, it is a big iPhone that you can't talk on. At least they fixed the dropped call problem!

Other than that, I may buy one to see if I can replace my laptop I carry every day that is heavy as hell.

                                We will see!

Oh, remote access on that should be pretty bad ass. Logmein and RDP should be pretty smooth
