Is anyone here a travel agent?

I remember someone talking about them being a travel agent or something. I'm looking to plan a week long trip for about 7+ people.

I used to be. I work for a tour company now that does super high-end tours thru places that would probably scare the shit out of you. lol just kidding, but yeah I mean Iran, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, China, Russia, etc. We specialize in Muslims and Commies! Wanna come?

All joking aside, I'm the air director fo the company, so I find and issue plane tickets to some weird places. I'm good at finding low prices to international destinations. The days are long behind me, though, where I put together all-inclusive vacation packages and boring shit like that. Thank god. Being a travel agent sucked, but there are still some cool perks having stayed in the industry.

Where ya headed? I could probably point you in the right direction/give advice/advise on airfare.

Still deciding. It's my mother in laws birthday so she wanted to goto Cancun (for what reason I don't know) untill she realized that swine flu may be a problem.


So now we are looking at Thailand possibly. I am pushing for somewhere in europe since i've never been but not exactly sure yet. Was just wondering if I could help throw some business in the direction of a snuson member if possible.



On a sidenote, I would actually love to visit Iran, China, and especially Russia. But not so good fo ra family vacation with infants and seniors

That's cool, we have more in common than I thought Thailand is super cheap -- great hotels can be had for $60 per night (easily) in Bangkok, and beach bungalows where they bring you breakfast in the morning and it's super relaxing go for less than $100 a night. Places like Ko Samui, Ko Phi Phi, Ko Samet might be a good place to start. From what I hear Phuket is pretty Spring-breakish, but if she suggested Cancun, then she must be ready beer bongs and bare breasts :wink: No, but I have heard some negative things about it for people who want to relax and not be totally overrun by tourists and partygoers.

Cancun would be cool because of its proximity to Mayan ruins, but otherwise I would chose somewhere more chill on the Pacific coast. Europe is great but once you get there, you can't find a decent place to stay for less than $200 a night or a beer for less than $8-$9 (depending on where you go). London will fleece the American wallet faster than a pickpocket in Mexico City.

I think Thailand would be very cool for cultural reasons and savings once you get over there, and there's always good ol' Hawaii -- renting condos or houses can be a great value for family travel, like 4 bedroom houses right by the beach for $350 a night.

There are some great resort areas in Vietnam too, like Nah Trang on the central coast, with cheap accommodations, and Hanoi, which is beautiful (obviously not a resort but a good starting point for SE Asia along with Bangkok), and some cool war memorial things to do and see.

My posts here may paint me in a certain light, often times because I am forced to be the only one standing up for America on snuson, but I am extremely intirested on other cultures, especially those in the middle east, since they are some of the most ancient cultures. I share a lot of their views in regards to how western society is becoming very secular and unchecked. I am fascianted with the Egyptian culture also and would love to visit Egypt someday but my wife's family isn't as into it as I am so i'll have to do that myself.

I heard that your not allowed to chew gum though and one american tourist got publicly caned for chewing gum in thailand. This of course prompts me to want to complete my life long goal of getting drunk in Asia untill I get publicly caned. You tube that bitch asap.

Well my wife and family don't drink, or really party at all, so this is why I was confused when they said that they wanted to go to Cancun, I was like wtf are YOU going to do in cancun? Pay extra $ for nacho's? We live in CA for god's sake, if you want good mexican food you can drive 10 minutes to a 100 places. My opinion is that the only redeeming value mexico has ever had is that you can legally drink at 18, but since we are all over 21, and no one is planning on drinking (except me), mexico sounds like a bad idea. It's like an overpriced trip to Malibu.

This is osmething I could love to see someday! Right after I goto brazil and hike to Machu Pichu which i was suppose dto do a couple years back but wasn't able to finance it in time.

Lol, yah the price is much higher for europe. Rome is another place I am pushing for sinec i've never been. We have a pretty adequate amount of money to finance this so price isn't the largest deciding factor, but doing things cheaper is always taken into account. I love art and sculture myself which is why Rome would be cool for me, but (unfortunately) it's not my birthday so I don't get to decide.

I've never been to hawaii but my wifes been twice and says its boring, i've heard this a lot but i'd still like to go someday.

We're going in late January. I just hope this swine flu thing doens't get out of hand. Not because I care but because we are bringing a very elderly woman with us and my 9 mo old daughter so don't want to take any chances.

I've got to say of all the cultures, the indian women have the most beautifull clothing. Me and ym wife always talk about how extravagant and colorfull their cloths are.

Thats one thing I dont like about America is how extremely mass produced everything is. Must have been cool back in the indian (native american) days when you had to kill like 30 lions to make a flava flave sized bling necklace from teeth and ears of those you've conquered. Now that's gangsta.

We went to the Big Island and I didn't think it was very touristy at all but I guess thats a matter of opinion. I have heard that each island is very different. We drove around the whole island and the only touristy things we did were a helicopter tour and a snorkeling bay, oh and the zoo. Kona is amazing. I would love to go back but we owe some family in Germany a trip next.

I suggest Corsica/Greece if you're going to spent "safe" holidays, and if you think about thailand or something, go to laos. Best place for relaxing. : )

And real travelling is another thing. :P
