    Space Travel, anyone following this?

    http://www.virgingalactic.com/

That's one such space travel line. Tickets are outlandish, but it's crazy that this is all happening in my lifetime.

Anyone else keeping up with this? It's really interesting.

          Pretty nifty :^)

I don't really have much desire to go into space. I'd be up for it if I could go somewhere else, but just going up and coming down doesn't hold much interest for me.

All they do it go up 200 miles or less. Further and it's deadly radiation. That's why we can't send manned craft further out.

They need to make some serious advances in space travel before it will be worth that much money to me.

I rather believe that it was pure luck that the astronauts from the moon-missions all came back alive. It was pretty hazardous to let people walk on the moon in these thin space-suits.

Besides of that, we're bound to stay on this planet with almost total certainty. All the plans about manned missions to Mars are a waste of money - let alone plans like "terra-forming". How can a "new civilisation" on an incredibly cold desert planet with no air turn out any better than what we can accomplish on the earth? The NASA surely knows how to keep the fundings and the actual plans are so crazed, that I cannot believe that these are the dreams of some idealists - it's really all about to keep the useless, bloated NASA-administration alive. Nothing more could be acchieved with a manned Mars mission than maybe to check, if Mars could be used as a temporary refuge for a very limited number of politicians (and other bastards) in case of a nuclear war on earth.

Back to topic, I read that a ticket costs $200.000. That's indeed far to much for a short trip with a high-flying rocket-plane. I rather spend a day at the local fun fair.

                  Cheers!

For that much, I'd want to stay in the space station or something for a few days. The flight would be cool by itself, but it's only worth maybe a couple thousand max.

Yah ive been following this for years now, I think I first heard about virgin galactic in 2006 or something.

Its going to happen in our lifetimes, however, the catch right now is it's like 200k a ticket, which isn't bad considering you get to GO TO SPACE, but it's only about 5 minutes in space and o gravity and then you go back down.

At least that's the last I heard. You figure they could stay for 30 minutes or something.

I disagree. I think if we want to waste trillions on something (which seems to be the new trend), it should be space.

The first country to develope ways to go other places and harvest materials from other planets will own the next few centuries. The jobs, technology, raw material, and money it would create would be vast.

You gotta admit though, our space program has been a joke. What have we accomplished lately? Not much. I think making an "honest" effort to go to the moon is good, but with technology we have now, we should be doing ALOT more.
