And here is an excellent TED talk on the moral roots of liberalism and conservatism:

    http://www.ted.com/index.php/talks/j...oral_mind.html

Both viewpoints are valuable in creating a workable society. But I don't get the high-control, big-government thing. Society could thrive with both liberal and conservative principles without having to resort to big government agencies and excessive regulation. Charity from a liberal perspective can be accomplished efficiently through private means. Moral guidance from a conservative perspective can be as well. Without government enforcement, each individual would be able to choose what direction they put their time and energies into based on their respective culture, wealth, and passions.

I'm at work and can't post the graph, but my dot was in the upper left red corner, one line from the bottom, and two lines in.

      Your political compass
      Economic Left/Right: -2.12

I'll have to watch this later, after work. But for now...charity through private means? Most of the non-profit agencies I've been involved with were going under due to lack of sufficient funds. They never would have survived on donations alone. There's not enough interest in private funding of charity, except for the tax write-off.

As for individuals choosing their direction, what if the people with the power (in our case, corporations) are blocking the directions in which people wish to choose?

Charitable donations have been high for years, and are only now starting to drop. We provide billions a year in donations to orgs in our country and for support to other countries.

When the government comes and takes 10% from you and gives it to someone else who they feel "needs" it, that is not the same as giving tithe at church, it is robbery.

If gov continues playing robin hood, than more people will stop donating and it will hurt many vital organizations that feed thousands

EDIT: Thats how a free market works, the tax write off is the incentive, so it becomes a mutually beneficial agreement. Poor get food, rich get tax break. Its how its supposed to work.

No surprise to me really. I voted liberal. I am on most social topics.

              *edit*
              Hmmm....not showing up.
Suffice to say that it looks like most of yours; down there in the lower left quadrant.

I ended up a little more to the left than I thought I would on but was in the Authoritarian part. I took a test several years ago in the Sunday Parade where it asked questions on which things you liked better. Such as, which TV show you liked better, Friends or Walker Texas Ranger? Not too cerebral but fun to take. My score showed I was more conservative than Rush Limbaugh but less conservative than Jesse Helms. Only reason I didn't match Helms' score I liked John Grisham novels better than Tom Clancy.

Funny thing is I like the TV show Friends too.

                              = Me

Even though the Republican's have lost their way somewhat, I just can't stomach "Big Government", "High taxes", and "Killing babies".

And yes I'm a Christian. Don't laugh. Jesus forgives me... (I think)
