The pirate bay got sold. They're going to start charging a usage fee.

Has anyone ever used netflix? I'm thinking of cancelling my cable and going to one of the mail order dvd clubs.

If you haven't seen the documentary "Overnight", I highly recommend it. It's the story of Troy Duffy and how he went from being an East Boston bartender working on a script to a successful screenwriter and director... and then how he lost it all by letting the fame go to his head, pissing off the wrong people (like Harvey Weinstein at Miramax), etc. It's kinda depressing at the end, but it explains why Boondock Saints never got a big theater release and why a sequel is a long time coming.

(Also, Troy never bothered to negotiate DVD/video royalties when he made his film deal, so he never got one red cent when Boondock Saints became a sleeper hit on DVD.)
Wow... thats interesting. And sucks too.... I think I remember someone mentioning to me before about the writer getting a big head as a reason for why the movie wasn't as mainstream as it could have been. Very unfortunate.

To Jason: Yeah I can't wait for the sequel... should be coming out at the end of 2009 but then again who knows. I'll definitely miss Defoe though... he was a great character.... "Cuddle? What a fag" ---lmao....

I have netflix baker...great service...actually I would imagine if I could find a good hookup for my cpu to my tv I would also get rid of cable and just use netflix and hulu.com(tv on internet) but there is a lot to be said for being able to use that remote and just find stuff rather than having to always be putting something on...dunno but netflix is a great thing i highly recommend it!

I highly recommend Netflix; pricing is decent, shipping is fairly quick, and they actually have some rather obscure stuff that is hard to find elsewhere. Like ctimb2002, I was also toying with the idea of dumping cable and just using Netflix and Hulu (great site, by the way), except that my roomate occasionally watches TV in the living room. My TV is in storage, and I can't say I really miss it at all.

I saw District 9 yesterday, and I thought it was great.

Any fans here of Italian cult genre films?
I love them. Italians just do it better, pre-1985, maybe 1990.

I picked up the dvd set of Inglorious Bastards 2 at Best Buy, it's 4 Italian produced war films. They kick butt.

Some "old"-movies what I like alot:

                Apocalypse Now
All Quiet On The Western Front

And lets not forget the legendary Police Academy's. ^^

Some movies what I've watched recently and liked, got to be Green street hooligans&GSH 2.

Windtalkers have been also one of my favourites for some time.

And my longtime favourite series (for years) is offcourse:

Band Of Brothers, it's just so awesome.
                Cant wait for The Pacific.

Going to have to repeat Gran Torino. If you haven't seen it yet, go rent it. Also the obvious Godfather series. I love mob movies.

Well, I'm going to have to recommend a Swedish movie for everyone. "Låt den rätte komma inn" was an awesome movie. Unfortunately, I think Leonardo DiCaprio, or however you spell it, bought the rights to do an English remake, which I dread will be awful. But, it's a Swedish vampire movie that turns into the weirdist/cutest romance film I've ever seen. Definitely out there.

I like a lot of weird movies though, like Visitor Q, or a more mainstream one, Dr. Strangelove. I also work through some of the cult classics from time to time. Right now, I want to watch some Bergman films, and probably a few things by Werner Herzog. Aguierres, der Zorn Gottes was pretty good.

netflix is pretty good. they have a nice selection and they don't take forever to get to you.

do you have any of the redbox rental thingy's around you? those are pretty cool $1 rentals.

blockbuster online is pretty good too. you can trade movies in at a store and get your new ones shipped out faster.

netflix has the advantage of being able to stream movies while you wait for the next batch to get there. (included in memebership unlike a similar service from blockbuster)

Probably 90% of my dvd collection is Italian productions.

Though not a movie, everyone should watch Dead Like Me. Great show if you like dark humor.

                                "The Man From Earth'
Not far everyone. Especially if you want a lot of action. Just about the whole move takes place in one room of a house. But it is one of my favorites.
