Led Zepplin, The Police, John Cougar (earlier), Stone Temple Pilots (Core), Pearl Jam, U2, The Who, The Guess Who, James Taylor, Nirvana, Duran Duran, Depeche Mode,White Snake (some not all), Metalica (older), and Lee Greenwood. Just kidding about the last one. "I am proud to be an American......"
I am not sure of all the Death Metal Lovers. I despise most music that I can not make out the lyrics. Well, you say, why do you like Pearl Jam? "Ten" was a freakin great album lyrics or not.

I am a musician and for whatever reason Ive never really liked vocalists. It seems like they are in the way of the guitar im trying to listen to
So I like the death metal vocalists because they sound almost like another instrument than a voice. I honestly dont have any idea of the lyrics of most songs, metal or not.
Woody Guthrie, old Bob Dylan, Bukka White, Skip James, Blind Boy Fuller, Lightnin Hopkins, Nina Simone, Scott H. Biram, Bad Brains, old hardcore, Mr. Lee (Scratch Pipecock Jackxon Daniel Dandelion The Lion) Perry, King Tubby, Toots, The Wailers, Gladiators, all vintage reggae/dub/ska music, some very select 80's and 90's rap music, old Metallica, Tool, Faith No More, Soundgarden, Melvins, Ol' Dirty Bastard, Louis Armstrong, Coltrane, Mingus, Leon Redbone, The Stooges, Tinariwen, Ali Farka Toure, all kinds of world music, all kinds of other stuff. For the newer members who want more info on more of our musical leanings, there is a long thread buried somewhere in this section with lots of posts... I'd like to hear some of this death metal lots of you guys are posting about. Never heard of these bands. I'll check it out.
Rosalie Allen - Some great old school yodeling. Nothing gets me pumped as I work out like good old fashioned yodeling
Billy Ray - I dig me some good 'ol country!
Brittany Spears - No clue why but I love her early stuff!
Ok, that was the hardest thing I have ever written. It took every ounce of self determination and courage I have. I need to take a shower now, I feel dirty..
Now, honestly, if it is rock, written from 1955 to 1979 and then from 1990 to 1999 it's probably kick ass.
Some swing jazz is cool and even some classical is ok.
A friend of mine had 4 Arsis albums including the Nightmare one and he is going to drop them by later
Sweet, let me know what you think of them. Like I said, their newest is pretty damn amazing. Reminds me of a very technical version of Hypocrisy from their Virus CD.
I just got a new needle for my turntable today and I've been having a marathon of sorts. Here's what I've been listening to today:
Philosophy of the World by The Shaggs
The Shaggs on vinyl, eh? Nice.
You know it. It's the Rounder re-release from the 80s, but I'm not complaining. The thing was probably only played a few times when I got it. A ridiculously lucky find.
I don't mind reissues. If I were wealthy, I'd love to have one of the original Shaggs records, or an original Bobb Trimble or something. But where I am now, I have no room to bitch. The Secretly Canadian reissues of the Trimble records sound fantastic. Plus I don't have $6000 dollars to drop on a single LP.
I do have some fantastic originals though. The Twenty-Six and For Every River Buried records are pretty rare and I have doubles of both. Great loner-folk/bedroom electronic/drone stuff from mid-90s Texas. All of my Loren Connors records are original and most are small edition. All but one of my Jandek LPs are original (I have the Jackpot 180g reissue of Ready For The House. It's sweet. Highly recommend it.). Lots of random stuff. My collection is a lot of rare stuff next to a lot of non-rare stuff.
Sorry. My vinyl nerd gland apparently exploded all over this post. Carry on.
I tend to lean on relaxing stuff...mellow Jazz and instrumentals, acoustic rock and alternative, indie music is a must, and I guess some of the softer type rock/metal/jam band, I do like some raggea and a few other generes...but only select artists.
My current play list includes.... Matt Nathanson, Ani Defranco, The Used, MCR, Pearl Jam, Bob Marley, HIM (one or two songs), Tori Amos, Fiona Apple, and many more....
I'm a chick...gimme a guitar, a smooth voice, and meaningful lyrics and I'm happy!
You aren't the only oddball...I too have most of those artists on my playlist! I also love Damien Rice, Amos Lee, Joshua Radin, Iron & Wine, Eddie Vedder (Into The Wild sdtk is amazing!), Raine Maida, Blue October & more. Not sure what category these fall under..modern folk? Adult Contemporary?? I just like acoustic, soothing music with lyrics that make me think...When I'm cleaning though, I love to listen to The Pretenders! Chrissie Hynde kicks ass!!!
I'm a huge fan of old, acoustic, Delta/Piedmont/Texas style blues. All-time favorites are Skip James, Lightnin' Hopkins, Blind Boy Fuller, Bukka White,...

No, not PirateBay. Stuff the artist meant to give away. Here's a few resources I like. They bring back the old thrill of exploration like before the internet,...
