Reading on this forum however there don't seem to be too many teens, as many seem to have made the switch to snus after years of smoking.

After answering this poll (please do guys it makes the thread more educational) indicate if you predominately use flavored or natural snus.

***Disclaimer: I know I have alot of "weird" threads/polls up but this is simply b/c I am curious about the world of Snus and its constituents. I spend my breaks inbetween studying on this forum. I am in no way, shape or forum collecting data for a paper or anyother form of research (not that it would be statistically accurate anyway...) I am also not a tobacco representative disguised as a snuser trying to get an inside. Just a lowly medical student with a new home and new interest in Snus...***
    I'm 19 years young.

Adults like candy flavors too, of course kids like candy flavors, everyone does. Too much emphasis on the "kids"

I think that's long gone. I imagine the Skoal flavors took up Happy Day's spot in the flavored category.

I'm 32. I like straight tobacco blends like Ettan, Grov, and General. Gotlandssnus Flader is as "flavored" as I get. I can't stand anything mint, wintergreen, fruity, licquorish, vanilla, or candy-ish. I do like a citrus taste every now and again, but I prefer it when it's a subtle part of the blend and not a "flavor".

And lxskllr is correct; the "Happy Days" line was rebranded as Skoal Flavors several years back. IIRC the writers of the song "Happy Days are Here Again" threatened to sue over a print ad that used the title of that song as a tagline. The ad was pulled and the dip renamed, although I'm not sure the re-naming was a direct response to threatened litigation. The timing may have just been coincidental.

I'm 31 and smoked for nearly 16 years. I enjoy both flavored snus and straight tobacco.

In my mind I break most snus into one of 3 catagories: Straight tobacco, mint, or fruit/herbal. I have favorites in all three catagories and have a fridge full of equal mixtures of each.

Here's my last order from Northerner:
          Offroad Wintergreen, Portion 2 (Mint)
          L.D Original, Portion 2 (Tobacco)
Phantom Blue, Portion 2 (Eh, not really in any catagory)
Probe Whisky, Portion 1 (Eh, not really in any catagory)
          Skruf Cranberry, Portion 1 (Fruit/Herbal)
          Jakobssons Classic, Portion 1 (Tobacco)
          Göteborgs Rape No2, White Portion 1 (Fruit/Herbal)
          Elixyr Peppemint, Portion 2 (Mint)
General Sterk, Strong Portion 1 (Tobacco)
          Gotland Green, Portion 2 (Fruit/Herbal)
          Grovsnus, Black Portion 2 (Tobacco)
Claq Qui, Strong Portion 2 (Fruit/Herbal)

4 cans mint, 6 cans tobacco, 6 cans fruit/herbal, 3 cans no catagory

          Fairly even mix

I'm 34 years old and primarily use flavored snus (General Wintergreen), but I like some non-flavored snus sometimes....Onyx, General White Portion. I switched to snus after about 13 years of smoking off-and-on, and was finally able to give smoking up for good with snus.

I'm 46 and prefer the flavored ones, especially the General Mini Mint, General Wintergreen, Discreet snus, and yes, Camel Frost. But, my last order to getsnus.com included a can of Gotlandssnus Yellow as my mystery can, and I really liked that one even though it's not actually a "flavored" snus.

How long have you been using Swedish now??

When I first started, I used mostly flavored, but came to like the non flavored more and more. then for a year, I would have one flavored one, followed by a non flavored one. But after about a year and a half, I really lost my taste for most flavored snus, and now I am about 85% non flavored.

Think that was aimed at me 8) ? I'm still pretty new to snus, maybe a month now that I've been using it in addition to my e-cigs. (I tried both the Camel and the Swedish stuff at the same time) Plus I am an ex-smoker of menthol cigarettes, so that probably explains alot of why I like the flavored and minty ones. So naturally I was attracted to those since I hated non-menthol cigarettes.

Now I'm finding that non-flavored isn't as bad as I thought it would be...I had the idea that it would be like the difference between menthol/non-menthol cigs so I didn't even try any till they sent the free can of Gotlandssnus. I'll probably throw a can or 2 in my orders from now on.

                    Yes, you.

That's all I want to encourage you to do. I too thought I wouldn't really like it, but over time, came to like it more and more. So keep branching out, trying new things. Also, expect that your tastes will change significantly over time. happens to most everyone with snus. Took me about a year before my tastes really stabilized.

I am trying new ones all the time now by mostly ordering "samplers"...but still can't bring myself to go back to that tin of Goat Rape yet! :P Other than that, I was also surprised that I like Gotlands Anis (Grey) Portion. I normally hate anything flavored like black licorice, but that stuff is good!

Put the tin of Goat Rape aside for now. But do make sure you go back and try it again in about a month. So many snuses I didn't like when I first tried them, only to come love them later when i had them again. And occasionally, a snus I will love at first blush that I later find I can't tolerate. Just the way of snus.

I'm 26. Speaking of which, There seem to be many 26 year-olds here, which should make the poll up top seem skewed. Anyway, I haven't really tried flavored snus other than the USA Camel stuff and General Dry Mint Mini. I just assume I won't like it much, considering that I'm not a fan of flavored American Dip.

And I didn't like sweet flavored dip when I first tried it at 19. However, I love Cope's whiskey and hickory flavors. I guess I feel like things like berries, mint, and other sweet flavors work to mask the flavor of the tobacco, while more earthy flavors complement it.

And I don't like menthol or flavored cigarettes. I didn't even at thirteen.

And I was smoking pot occasionally for eight years before I ever tried it in "blueberry."

As for marketing to kids, I think the very accusation is stupid. It's true that tobacco is an acquired taste for many, but the 13-17 year-old crowd that they're most concerned about probably doesn't require their tobacco to be "kiddy-flavored." Their biggest requirements are that it looks cool and pisses off their parents.

As it's been shown here, adults like flavors too, even into old age. And while I'm not willing to experiment, I'd doubt you could put enough sugar in tobacco or enough cartoons on the packaging to make my 3 year-old son like it.

The protection of children has long been used by governments as an excuse to exert more power over the people. It's a bunch of ****ing hogwash, and leveraging people's children is a cheap and effective way to garner support for even the most inane of initiatives.
