Also, your anecdotal observations are ridiculous. Cops do not HAVE to arrest you when they see you with a switchblade - it is a matter of discretion.

The way these things work, the minor crimes are only added on when you commit a bigger crime. For example, say you drive drunk... The cops pull you over, discover a switchblade, and add that to the bigger DUI charge. This way, it keeps you in jail loner and makes the cops look better. I doubt they would really care that you're peeling an apple with a switchblade (or what have you)...

This has been my point all along. You continuously jump into threads like this one with a page out of some law journal and then follow it up with a one-liner like "you better not carry that off the base", but then backpedal and say things like the above.

Are you insinuating that we are criminals who are going to get arrested, drive drunk, rob somebody? If not, your reply that I just quoted above blows all your previous points out of the water.

On a side note, you really should get out to SLC to ski some time. You will not get as many of the aggressive faces that you get in Colorado, but for a nice relaxing day with several options for challenging runs, it is an amazing place.

My dream is to ski the Swiss Alps once before I kick the bucket. That would be well worth destroying my knee again!

Switchblade
A switchblade (also known as automatic knife, switch, or, in British English flick knife) is a type of knife with a folding blade that springs out of the grip when a button or lever on the grip is pressed. There are two basic types: side-opening and out-the-front (OTF). A side-opening knife's blade pivots out of the side of the handle (in the same manner as an ordinary folding knife). Assisted-Opening Knife / Spring-Assisted Opening Technology
A spring-assisted knife is a knife that when you push on the thumb stud to open it a spring takes over and propels the blade open. Spring-assisted knives make a great alternative to automatic knives. A Spring / Torsion assisted knife is a type of knife which uses a spring assisted mechanism behind the blade. They open by the ambidextrous thumb stud on the blade with a slight bit of pressure. They are commonly confused with switchblades, but have one main difference. While a switchblade can be opened usually with the push of a button within the handle, the user of a spring-assisted knife must apply slight pressure to the thumb stud and the spring/torsion assisted mechanism does the rest. Once the knife has been opened about one-quarter of the way (45°), the mechanism will open the knife the rest of the way. A/O knives are Assisted - Opening which are also Spring - Assisted knives.

Thanks man. Actually it is a byrd by spyderco. I saw it at the local gun shop and couldn't resist not getting one. It is about 8.5 inches when open and and looks really intimidating.

HAHAHAH... like I have any use for a crappily constructed old ass otf switchblade, it's far less efficient and reliable than any of my other real knives, it's just a sharp show piece.

my 3550 is the only auto I'll use, all steel and aircraft grade aluminum, reliable spring, beside that it's ONLY a backup knife, I have knives more suitable for EDC uses, as you can see.

I love it when people on the internet try to tell me what to carry and what not to carry, bottom line is I'll never get arrested for having a switchblade because I'm not trying to stab people with it, and I don't snap it open infront of LEOs.

AND paramedics,EMTS, LEOs and firefighters DO carry autos around here.

Trust me I've read up on it.

Oh, and as a side note, military folks are never off duty, ever. LEOs may debate it, but it's a fact. 24/7/365 duty.

The quality of Benchmade is reminiscent of the best US has to offer in technology and workmanship. Had I bought the Benchmade first, I wouldn’t have bought the rest of the blades from other manufacturers.
