I checked out spyderco, but their designs aren't very appealing to the eye. Also, their blades have a "stamped" look to them. I know they aren't but I guess I mean the finish isn't the best.

To be honest with you, kershaw's knives didn't really turn me on either. I think I got lucky with the Vapor. The Vapor II isn't even that appealing.

PS Xobe - that griptilian is sweet. I may have just put that on my short list...

Yeah man. I've owned a few griptilians (every one has been stolen  )

I think my next one is going to be the sand-camo handle/black-oxide blade. It just looks sweet, and I can vouch for them as far as having amazing usability

I'm going to investigate the possibility of an auto griptilian. Also, I looked at a Rukus, which is bigger than I thought I wanted, but it is definitely about as sexy as a knife can be. Especially at 10" open...

My brother had an auto griptilian. It is a bit larger than the regular one iirc and very nice.

The regular one is pretty damn close to an auto without being auto. Just pull the notch back and flick the wrist while releasing the tab and it is open/locked as fast as an auto.

I am considering an auto for my next too. The deciding factor is whether I can get the sand camo one in auto or not.

Oh man!, I could write you a novel on the subject. I'm partial to Emerson and Benchmade, though Kershaw's USA made stuff is dope. Buck is finally manufacturing in large part in America again. Shoot man, Spyderco's still great, but pricey! Edcforums.com is a great place to exchange opinions on knives too

on a shameless plug note, I do a blog with some friends, we're not selling anything, or sponsored by anyone, we just write about guns and knives we like...if you're interested.

Emerson does make really good knives....little $$ though.

                Well, I made my choice...

After much debate, but knowing that I wanted to stick w/ the Griptilian line from Benchmade; I opted to go with the 553SBKOD: Griptilian combo tanto blade, black-oxide coated w/ an OD green handle.

Total came to less than $80 shipped courtesy of matthewssportinggoods on ebay. They had killer prices on all the Griptilian blades for anyone else interested.

I was hoping pony would jump in on this one. I knew you were a big knife guy, and I value the opinion of a connoisseur.

I looked at the spyderco site and wasn't crazy about their designs. Benchmade seems money, but are pricey. When I checked the kershaw site and saw what my vapor retails for, I was shocked. I only paid 18 bucks, and at that was astounded at the value.

Anyway, a fairly large folder is what I'm after, since I have a 3"er; so something larger for heavier duty use sounds about right.

As far as fixed goes, I've got my eye open for a Ka-Bar...if I can get it in a plain edge tanto blade.

Damn you're good! We had ka-bars at our exchange when I was in Groton, but they were all combo edges. I take my hat off to you, sir.

NP man. I'm an ebay whore.

Check out the guys ebay store I mentioned too:

                        http://stores.ebay.com/MATTHEWS-SPORTING-GOODS

Has a great selection of blades at pretty damn nice pricing (and low shipping costs unlike most ebay hacks)

I went on the benchmade site and checked out their dealer locator...there was supposedly one about 10 miles away from my front door!

Yeah, it definitely doesn't exist. I guess I'll make some phone calls tomorrow, and keep searching online. I checked out that ebay store, Xobe, and he sells all combo blades on his folders. I really want plain edge.

The way I figure it, plain edge is nice, and so is serrated, but I don't want an inch and a half of each. Then all I end up with is two tiny blades.

You must not have been lookin too hard.

Here is the same style knife I got w/ a silver straight-edged blade for $69.99 shipped:

You gotta stop showing me up! Actually, I might save the grip for the wife to buy as an anniversary gift. I've got my eye on the BM 610 Rukus and the BM 950 Rift. These are two stunning knives. I'm trying to find a dealer near Jacksonville that has them so I can hold them and make sure I could actually see myself carrying a blade that measures 10.12" total length when opened.

Don't get me wrong, I want it BAD; but I don't know how it would feel in my hand.

The rift is a very sexy knife. I had one in my hand the other day.

They sell the rift at Bass Pro Shop if you want to go put your hands on one.

I have never held a rukus before, but from the looks of it, the handle is a little too thin for my taste.
