I'd stay away from any material that could double as upholstery or drapes.

Is this a buy or a rental? If you're buying I recommend something that will get more mileage than those. I'd imagine you're not planning on going to a funeral in one of those. A one time event is going to be a lot of money hanging in your closet...

You should get a black, a navy blue, and a grey at least. If you can only afford one go with grey. Later get a pinstripe, a window pane, and a double breasted.

i can tie a tie a few different ways...im getting it to show up at my old schools prom just for fun...i was looking at a few of the grey ones(very nice btw) but they are around 1500(dont have the money right now..but its a few months away so shouldnt matter)

I would not wear either, but the first one is better. If you don`t want to look like a pimp, go with the other guys`advice. You can add some flash without making people either love it or hate it. The WASP heterosexuals will hate it. If that is what you are going for, have at it.
