Why are there no bands like this anymore? If there are please point them out. I'm talking about the Stones, T-Rex, the New York Dolls, AC/DC etc...just straight up blues based rock. Any suggestions, guys?
Down and dirty rock n' roll...

I dunno if these hit the spot for you but they´re my favorites. Backyard Babies are still active and they´re one helluva rock band. I like the Raconteurs as well.
Hellacopters (I think they just recently quit.)

EDIT: Backyard Babies and Hellacopters are other fine example of Swedish exports besides snus.

queens of the stone age is a band with an understated blues influence... as well as death from above 1979

My fav current band is called Government Mule. They might be considered more blues than rock, but they are amazing.

Clutch, maaaan! They are pretty much in the same category as QOTSA, but they are more bluesy (they are now anyway).

The Answer:
I had the pleasure of seeing these supporting Alter Bridge. They're supporting AC/DC on their current tour. The best of my suggestions IMO

As someone already mentioned, Hellacopters.... What a great band.
Also, another brilliant band, Volbeat, sounds like... Metallica, a bit like Danzig (The Misfits) That´s not all - Their greatest influence is Rockabilly!

About two years ago I think. Justin left after the 2nd album, and then the rest of them formed a new band with the new bassist singing, they're called Stone Gods.Originally posted by JasonWhen did those guys break up? Hellacopters is a great recommendation. Excellent band, now departed.
You might like Drive By Truckers. They have kind of a Southern Rock thing going on. Frankly, I'm not all that familiar with them, but I like what little I've heard and they have a lot of rabid fans.
There's also Fu Manchu, The Sword, Electric Wizard, etc. bringing THE RAWK, although Sword and Electric Wizard are pretty doomy metal.
Weedeater is also pretty good.
But yeah, I feel your pain. There just aren't that many ball-swinging heavy rock bands these days. I mean, I like jangly pop and other stuff too, but I have to be in the mood.
The last time I can think of that there was a big American movement of hard rocking stuff was in the early 90s...some of the Seatlle bands, the Amphetamine Reptile label, the Touch and Go label...
