New tobacco health warnings in the UK

    Link

They're putting these on the back of all fag packets and pouches of baccy.

I bought some Drum Gold the other day (I've started smoking again) to find a picture of heart surgery on the back, and bought a pack of Luckies today with the dead guy on the back, pretty effective really.

It's been like that in Canada for years. People still smoke.

In Switzerland they made an experiment in the seventies, with a tobacco-brand, called "Sargnagel" (coffin nail) in a black pack with a skull on the front (if I remember it right). The brand was cheaper than other brands and an absolute success.

It's too long ago though that I saw about in on TV. I'm quite sure that this was an experiment by some scientists, but it could also have been just a joke. However, I'm absolutely sure that such a brand would also be a success today.

This vulgar kind of 'health-education' with dead bodies and cripples on the cigarette-packs is simply dumb. It only leads to smokers who stop to believe anything of the anti-smoking-propaganda and non-smokers who literally become psychotic about smoke.

      Cheers!

My problem with these ads is that it doesn't tell us anything new.

Most smokers know that there are risks involved with smoking but somehow seem to think that "it won't happen to me", or they are willing to take those risk because they have yet to find a means to wean them off their dependency on nicotine.

I consider us lucky because we found snus, which (although it still carries some health risks) is a viable alternative to smoking, unlike the NRT therapies currently being sold on the market.

However, having said all that maybe the new ads will cause some people to think twice before starting to smoke, and in that case I would call it a minor success.

Personally, I think this is a good thing. I don't think anyone should smoke but it should NOT be illegal. People need to realize that snus, snuff, and e-cigs are still not free of health risks and are EXTREMELY addictive. I must say that I am more addicted to snus than I ever was cigs. I feel like crap if I don't get my nicotine.

I find snus easier to go without than cigarettes. I've had a really busy day today and I didn't get to snus until I got home at 9. And despite having a stressful day I never had that "I need nicotine now" itch.

I hate smoking... But I suppose it's a bit of an emotional crutch. I suffer from depression and whenever it gets worse I find myself itching to light up.

EXACTLY!! I was late for class this morning and I didn't get my morning "fix" and had to wait until noon. The few times I was late for class and didn't have time or forgot to pick up my pack of smokes I was completely useless and sometimes I would leave 10 minutes early or so to get out of there. Today I still had the tention headache I usually get without it but I was still functional and got what I should have out of todays class. Ended up not putting in my first pris of the day until around 1 oclock.

I find the withdrawls last a bit longer with snus but it isn't as pronounced. Really grateful for that.

I actually like to smoke, and I know for a fact that warning labels do not work. There is no research to support their use.

I quit smoking after seeing a smoker's lung at a human body exhibit. I think graphic warnings should be implemented in America, because the tiny Surgeon General's Warning is complete rubbish. This video helped me as well:
