    Superbowl 2015

So it looks like lots of you USAians are watching the biggest match of the year ...

Now - disclaimer - I love nearly every code of football across played all over the planet - I realise that soccer which has more recently become the worldwide sport is only one aspect of a game whose roots lie in villages trying to get a leather balloon from one goal to another by any means necessary. I love Gaelic football, Aussie rules, Rugby, table football etc. but I have never yet managed to understand American Football despite trying hard to watch it in the past.

Anyhow ... we've got the Super Bowl live on our channel 4 over here in the UK ... so I'm going to give it another go. I'm willing to watch several hours of men dressed in armour smacking in to each other for 5 second bursts and occasionally throwing and catching a ball then congratulating each other as if they'd actually achieved something. But just so I can feel on the same wavelength as you guys in the US.

I'm hoping that whoever is playing tonight takes some heed of this team who discover that it's not illegal to pass the ball like in every other code of football around the globe ... this is the most exciting American Football clip I've ever seen!

I understand that this year one of the teams is a new one from England ... so come on England!

Well it's very exciting so far after the first quarter of play ... both blue and white teams have banged in to each other loads of times and they have successfully kept the ball in the middle of the playing field despite throwing and kicking the ball plenty of times. Well done everyone! The score is 0-0. Everyone is sweating and looks like they have been working really hard despite the fact that they have hardly run any distance at all and have just fallen over a lot. Apparently one of them made some kind of mistake and threw the ball and somebody on the other team caught it once!!!!!!

I can't wait for someone to do something interesting.

Has nobody told them you can pass the ball twice as long as the second, third pass etc. are not forwards? Surely they would score more often if they did that like they do in all other kinds of football.

Great! Apparently England have got a touchdown which means that they have won 6 goals!!!! Brilliant ... It was just the same man falling over - but he did it in the blue grass rather than the green grass this time and everyone was really happy .... excellent!!

It's brilliant because it's kind of like watching chess with real men ... by that I mean I don't know the rules, but it's very clear that nobody wants to lose so they defend all the time in ways I don't understand. That's why it's the 'biggest' sporting event of the year ... I'm sure of it.

I think I'm beginning to understand now ... the fact that the play stops so often is brilliant because it allows the TV to advertise useless products to us even in the middle of the quarters ... and the guys playing who obviously like eating pies as much as the next man can get away with a nice rest in-between all the smacking in to each other which means that they don't need to actually get fit like in other sports. They can just get away with working their arms in the gym so that they are in proportion with their massive bellies that let them knock other american footballers over with their weight. It's win-win ... get to eat your burgers AND get to play professional sport ... why didn't we think about that in the UK?

I wish I lived in a country that was 'free' like the US

There's definitely one guy playing for the team dressed in white that looks like he'd be more suited to sumo wrestling! I might be being unfair as it might just be the padding these American Footballers wear - it definitely looked like fat though! That makes me happy - it's definitely an equal-opportunities sport.

The big fat guys are each assigned one square yard, and they're used to hide behind. It's in the rules. The strategy is to put the big fat guys in the right places.
